Anarchist Café: The history of the RAF, the solidarity movement, and the trial of Daniela Klette

On January 10, our Café and Größenwahn will take place again.

This time, everything revolves around the Red Army Faction.

We are pleased that the network “Freedom for All Political Prisoners” has prepared a presentation for our café, which will focus on Daniela Klette, the history of the RAF, and the repression against the solidarity movement.

The RAF was a highly polarizing group in recent German history. It is important not to forget what happened.

Some alleged former members of the RAF are said to be in hiding to this day. Daniela Klette was arrested in February 2024 after a 30-year manhunt and has been in custody ever since.

Let's learn together and share our thoughts on the topic!

We will make ourselves comfortable by the fireplace. As usual, there will be snacks and hot and cold drinks.

The café opens at 3 p.m., and the presentation starts at 3:30 p.m.

We look forward to seeing you there!

An Erk's Progress: 7. Blighty... And Romance So it was that in 1942 I travelled by rail to Bombay where together with eight other R.A.F. types I boarded the “Athlone Castle” which had been converted from a luxury liner to a troopship.

In chapter 7 of his memoirs (1942-1943), my grandfather Bill Hamilton says farewell to India, sails to New York via Cape Town, and enjoys the good life at Fort Slocum before returning to England and falling in love with a W.A.A.F called Thelma. #history #rafhistory #waafhistory #fortslocum

Chapter 6 of Bill Hamilton's memoirs sees him back in Bangalore in 1942. He receives an uncoded message about the fall of Singapore, witnesses an Indian independence protest, and camps in the race course grandstand (frequented by Charles Agnew 75 years earlier.) #history #rafhistory #ww2

Of all my grandfather's RAF stories, those from his time in the North West Frontier of British India were the most vivid. With the same content warning as before, chapter 5 of Bill Hamilton's memoirs features the outbreak of war, the Khyber Pass and trouble in Waziristan. #history #rafhistory

After a long train journey from Bombay in May 1938, Bill Hamilton reaches Peshawar in what was then the North West Frontier Province and joins 20 Squadron of the RAF. Be aware that this chapter includes examples of cultural naivety, colonial stereotyping, and casual racism. #history #rafhistory
