A cartoon drawing of a light brown camel with one hump. At the position where one might find an udder, we see a baby camel hanging. It is to illustrate the absurdity of the sentence "The definition and definition of microbes on the camel’s camel is very important ", found in the abstract of a paper about the camel udder microbiome.

New blog post: The Camel's Camel.
Today, I found a beautiful example of synonymized plagiarism involving the microbiome of a camel’s udder.

Identifying Predatory Journals: A Global Challenge Ahead Explore the hidden challenges in global academic publishing, focusing on the rise of predatory journals and the need for greater awareness.

UNDERCOVER: The predatory publishing problem is not confined to English language journals - it is a global malaise. Here's the story from Brazil: blog.cabells.com/2026/03/11/p... @cabells.com

Predatory journals: The view from Brazil Global academic publishing can often be reminiscent of the tale of the black swan. In England in the 17th century, a ‘black swan’ was a metaphor for a rare or impossible event, that was until 1697 when Dutch explorers found black swans happily swimming around in what is now called Western Australia. The shock of such an event is palpable, but more serious are the assumptions and superiority that such beliefs are based on, that all that exists does so in some small corner of Western Europe.

A recent Brazilian study surveying nearly 5,000 researchers ID'd 66 journals with predatory practices, many using familiar tactics like spam solicitations and rapid publication promises.

The takeaway? Greater awareness and stronger standards are needed worldwide to protect #ResearchIntegrity.
