For those of you following along with Texas’s #sb37 the conference committee report is out and from my initial reading, it seems like it was watered down further. For example, the section about “CRT/DEI” was been removed.

Hijole: Texas #SB37 now requires me to tell students that our shared beliefs in human rights is equal or not better than the Nazi's beliefs in genocide.

Texas is seeking to improve higher education by *checks notes* creating a HUAC-style ombudsmen to ensure professors don't indoctrinate students and at the same time require *checks notes again* that professors only work from 8-5, M-F, assuring a MASSIVE hourly wage increase.

Faculty and students blast Texas House panel for limiting testimony on bill that targets state universities The House's higher education committee closed registration to testify on Senate Bill 37 less than half an hour after the hearing started. About 20 people said they didn't get to address lawmakers.

#SB37, a direct attack on shared governance and faculty's 1A right to speak and teach freely, passed the House Higher Ed committee today on its way to a floor vote and probable passage.

It essentially removes faculty from the shared governance of our schools.

🗣️🗣️🗣️Why are we speaking out against #SB37? It threatens academic freedom, shared governance & due process, the cornerstones of American higher education. It increases state control over public higher ed in #TX. It disempowers Faculty Senates. And it has already (while unpassed) led to overcompliance.

Scary stuff from the TX legislature. Texas #SB37 limits faculty’s academic freedom, giving university regents (political appointees) power to decide on course curricula and on hiring decisions at public colleges and universities.

Being from Texas continues to be something I am embarrassed by rather than proud of- and that saddens me.
I keep thinking they couldn't do anything more detrimental than the last thing- and they keep saying "hold my beer"

Texas lawmakers aim to strangle liberal arts with SB37 Senate Bill 37, under consideration in the Texas Legislature, would change our public universities so radically that they would no longer be first-class.

The Governor Vetoed SB37!!🎉📣

This was the bill that would take local property tax dollars collected for education, pour them into the legislature’s general fund, and then replace them with income tax revenue that is constitutionally earmarked for education.
