Poem: Something
something starts when someone decides to stay
something grows when its watered every day
something dies when another loses their way
stay or astray
something makes our world go round
something forces it go to ground
something is what makes the difference
ground or round
overlaid on a portion of Jean-François Millet’s The Gleaners, on show at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, France.
It was chosen for the profound thematic link between the painting & Voltaire’s quote "We must cultivate our garden“ referenced in the post’s text.

There is always a lurking
Something.
Ubiquitous, pervasive
& somehow unnameable
So I cultivate my garden every day
relationships, work or vegetables
knowing the price of neglect
And I remind myself
an essential task in cultivation
is weeding
