Self Made Woman is a slightly larger than life statue of a woman chipping away pieces of a block of granite to create... herself. Many years ago the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology's (SAIT) enrollment was mostly male students. That most certainly is no longer the case today.
Taken last week. One of my favourite (and #clever) works of public #art in #Calgary is aptly entitled, "Self Made Woman." Created by Vancouver based stone sculptor Paul Slipper (with Cameron Small and Amiel Logan) in 2009, this granite piece stands on the #SAIT campus. #yyc #Photography #art #statue

In Riley Park, located between #Kensington & #SAIT in #Calgary there is a small patch of Plains Prickly pear, which bloom for a few weeks in late June. The rest of the year they're rarely noticed. This second #photo was taken yesterday. You can't say these cacti aren't hardy, no? 😉 #photography
