Learned a new type of bug yesterday at the museum and knew I had to doodle them. Do they like it? I dunno. I hope so

RESCUED
BY WIRELESS

When the Titanic hit an iceberg in April 1912, the stricken ship's officers sent out distress calls by wireless telegraphy. Help arrived in time to rescue 712 survivors, who otherwise would have perished. The disaster gave wireless a publicity boost, and made pioneer Guglielmo Marconi a celebrity.

Grand Junction Railway Locomotive Columbine, 1845

Columbine was one of a series of locomotives built to a standard design, replacing a number of locomotives by different makers. Columbine ran on the Grand Junction Railway - Britain's first trunk railway when it opened in 1837.
Engineered by Robert Stephenson and Joseph Locke, the railway ran north from Birmingham to a junction with the Liverpool and Manchester Railway.

Mill engine by Burnley Ironworks Company, 1903

This mill engine was constructed in 1903 by the Burnley Ironworks Company for Harle Syke Mill, Burnley. It's an example of a 'horizontal' engine, a type that was widely used after 1850, and was direct-acting, doing away with the giant rocking beams of earlier engines. This one is typical of many built during the period and it worked right up until 1970.
Inv. 1971-78

The mill engine is a horizontal engine. This drawing shows the first horizontal steam engine to be sold commercially, by Taylor & Martineau of London.
Engraving published by John Murray, London,
September 1826.

ROE I TRIPLANE, 1909
This three-winged triplane was the first all-British aeroplane to fly. It was designed, built and flown by Alliott Verdon Roe (1877-1958). Roe began building y experimental models in 1902 and used his £75 winnings from a 1907 model aircraft competition to begin building full-size aircraft. This triplane's success was Roe's first step towards founding the aircraft manufacturing company A V Roe and Co.

Soyuz TMA-19M descent module and parachute
2015
This is the spacecraft used by an international crew, including Britain's Tim Peake, to reach and return from the International Space Station. Tim flew as the European Space Agency's first British astronaut.
The friction Soyuz encountered as it plunged through the atmosphere during its return was so great, its surface burned away. This helped slow its descent, along with the parachute above you, which is the size of two tennis courts.

Apollo 10 Command Module 'Charlie Brown'
1969
This spacecraft took astronauts Tom Stafford, Gene Cernan and John Young around the Moon in May 1969. The mission successfully practised everything required to reach the Moon - except land. Once Apollo 10 reached the Moon, Tom and Gene flew the Lunar Module above the lunar surface, before returning to join John in this Command Module for their journey home. Two months later, Apollo 11 became the first mission to successfully put humans on the Moon.

Cray-1A Supercomputer
C. 1976
Seymour Cray founded the high-performance computing industry with machines like this
1976 Cray-1A. Its cylindrical shape kept wires short, so signals arrived at their destination sooner. With Freon cooling and pioneering processing systems, the machine achieved then-unrivalled operating speeds.
It cost £8 million in 1979 and operated at England's
Aldermaston Atomic Weapons Establishment.

Cray's designs embodied innovative technology and a great aesthetic sense, but he liked to work with simple tools - often a pencil and paper. It is said that when he was told that Apple had bought a Cray to simulate their next desktop machine he remarked, 'Funny, I am using an Apple to simulate the Cray-3.' Source: Cray Research (UK) Ltd

Enigma machine
1934
Probably the most famous encryption system is the Enigma machine. This is an early example.
Enigma machines were electromechanical devices designed to resist advanced mathematical techniques for code-breaking.
Enigmas were originally made for business use, but were taken on by the German military and used extensively in the Second World War.
Mathematicians in Poland, France and the UK developed advanced techniques that broke the Enigma code, helping shorten the war.

You need to listen to Indigenous leaders and cut your ties with the corporations that are causing this destruction.
