Ever wondered what keeps a late-screened cancer patient alive? This + meds only from hospital: Trastuzumab (Herceptin), Pertuzumab (Perjeta), and zoledronic acid (Zometa). Thanks to cancer research, I’m still alive @terryfoxfoundation.bsky.social, I’m still alive. But we need to #ScreenBetterCanada

Repeat after me: our voices matter! This morning, the Founder of the Coalition for Responsible Guidelines emailed the group’s member, which I am one of them, to point us to the news release below. While it the External Expert R…

Yess! The Honorable Mark Holland, Minister of Health has instructed the PHAC to pause the work of Canadian Task Force on Preventative Health Care until the External Expert Review panel finalizes its recommendations on the Task Force's structure and processes. Our voices matter!

Had a powerful advocacy moment at La Vie en Rose. Mentioned being too young for a mammogram, surprising the salesperson—an aspiring nurse. I explained the flaws in provincial and 🇨🇦 guidelines. She shared that they promote self-exams at any age. Love to see it, AB nursing! #ScreenBetterCanada

I’m so sorry to hear of her passing. We desperately need better cancer screening in Canada. Condolences to her family and friends.

Agree. Doctors who don’t want to screen aren’t doing their job.

Minister Holland Reacts to New Breast Cancer Screening Guidelines – May 30, 2024 Speaking with reporters on Parliament Hill, federal Health Minister Mark Holland comments on the Canadian Task Force on Preventative Healthcare’s updated guidelines for breast cancer screening. The minister outlines his concerns with the task force’s guidelines that do not recommend regular breast cancer screenings for women under 50 who are of average risk. In response to the recommendations, the minister is inviting breast cancer experts to review the draft guidelines and is calling for an extension of the public consultation period with stakeholders from 6 weeks to a minimum of 60 days. He is also calling for Canada's chief public health officer Chief Public Officer Dr. Theresa Tam to convene with senior health officials and key experts to review the guidelines. (no interpetation)

Yes! Thank you ⁦@markhollandlib⁩ “I’m concerned & disappointed. The guidelines that have been released by the Task Force, simply stated, don’t conform with the conversations I’ve had with experts across the country.” #ScreenBetterCanada

Interesting comment from panelist: we need better screening for Canadians, at any age and any location. This was not in relation to breast cancer but to cancers in general. Having the patient perspective is critical. @cantaskforce #TFRI10SM #ScreenBetterCanada

And @cantaskforce - most of Canada has figured out that screening at #40not50 saves lives. #ScreenBetterCanada

Thank you, @Liz_ORiordan for showing women how easy it is. It’s upsetting w/ docs say the harms of a mammo outweigh the benefits. Seeing you smile throughout the process goes to show that it is really “that simple”. I hope @cantaskforce will watch this #ScreenBetterCanada

Just think about how many people are affected by their work? It’s mind boggling! Yet, it has an anti-screening bias!

Don’t take my word for it. Listen to my short video t/ includes the Chair of t/ Task Force talking about screening in general. Link 👇🧵⅔ #ScreenBetterCanada
