It's the kind of stuff you hate to talk about, but #cyclone #senyar has a death toll near 1 thousand and damage nearing $19billion USD. Meteorologically, this was the weirdest storm possibly, forming in the straight of Malacca and moving into the typhoon basin. Tragic scenes. Ditwah in replies vvvv
Unfortunately the death toll only continues to rise from #CycloneSenyar. Decided to make a map showing where the fatalities occurred compared to the track. Just goes to show that you don't need to get a direct hit to see catastrophic impacts.

Well #Senyar has indeed maintained tropical cyclone status as it crossed #Malaysia into the Western Pacific and is continuing to move northeast in a part of the world that typically sees TCs moving west!

Tropical Depression #Senyar has emerged over the waters east of Peninsular Malaysia, becoming the first storm in recorded history to form in the Strait of Malacca and recurve towards the northwestern Pacific Ocean.
The remnants of #Senyar are currently moving over #Malaysia and is about to move into the Western Pacific basin, where is has a low chance of redeveloping!

JMA has listed the remnants of Cyclonic Storm #Senyar ( #04B ) as a minor tropical depression in its 18Z marine bulletin, meaning that Senyar's exceedingly rare move from the North Indian Ocean into the Western Pacific is now official.
#Senyar is now a deep depression in NE Sumatra & will remain slow-moving with heavy rain in #Sumatra, #Malaysia & #Singapore through Friday. The deep depression near Sri Lanka will continue to bring heavy rain to #SriLanka into Friday, then SE #India Friday into early next week.
