Writing Tip
Topic - World-building
Advice - Don't try to make something from nothing. Start with something small by using something people already know and understand. Then, build lore, history, magic, beliefs, and more around that small bit of something real.
Example: Fourth Wing
Yarros started by giving readers something small, relatable, and realistic to connect with - an interaction between a mother and two daughters as the youngest prepares for her college entrance exam. Then, around that experience that her target audience could easily relate to, she introduced other world-building elements. This allowed for continuous world-building and expansion based on what she needed the reader to know and when.
