A close-up, black and white shot of an older man with white hair, wearing a cap and sunglasses, who is leaning on a vintage steam engine. He is holding a cleaning rag and a mug, and he appears to be contemplating the machine. The engine's manufacturer is marked "John Fowler & Co. Ltd., Leeds, Engineers."

A photograph of a single-engined fighter aircraft from the early 1940s. It is a Hawker Hurricane Mk1 (R4118, with squadron markings UPW). This actual aircraft was delivered new to 605 (County of Warwick) Squadron at Drem on 17 August 1940. During the Battle of Britain it flew 49 sorties from Croydon and shot down five enemy aircraft.
In the photograph it is rising above trees, having just taken off. Its undercarriage is not yet fully retracted. It is in green and brown camouflage colours. National identification roundels are visible on the side of the fuselage and under the wing. National identification stripes are visible on the tail fin.
The cockpit hood is open, and the head of the pilot is visible behind the windscreen. The propellor is blurred from the motion of it spinning, and there is a dark sky overhead.

Today is Battle of Britain Day (15 September). This Hawker Hurricane is a machine that kills fascists. It flew 49 sorties during the battle and downed 5 enemy aircraft.

A photograph of an old aircraft in the air, flying towards and past the viewpoint. It is built of struts and canvas; a triplane with a single propellor at the front of the fuselage. It is crewed by a single pilot, exposed to the elements. It is an Avro IV triplane. The original flew in 1910, but this is a replica built for the 1965 movie 'Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines'. Behind it, also airborne, is a sleek, twin engined monoplane. It is another Avro aircraft, an Anson. The type first flew in 1935, but this particular one was built in 1946.
Both aircraft were displaying together (with a third Avro, a 504k) at the Old Warden summer airshow, hosted by the Shuttleworth Collection.

Another pleasent 24c in Hertfordshire so a trip to The Shuttleworth Collection and Swiss garden was the order of the day.
So peaceful with only a handful of people around.
Enjoyed identifying birds on an app called Merlin.

A kind member of my family sent me some pics of me as a small human. It's at an airshow at #Shuttleworth in #OldWarden in 1978. I'm watching the aeroplanes. Nothing changes.
