THE TRUMAN SHOW meets 'The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas' in @hamrobotham.bsky.social 's JUST WAIT 'TIL YOU'RE DEAD.

A striking, memorable look at complicity in a town where performing just the right amount of niceness is a matter of life and death. Brilliant stuff!

I'm also a writer and the project I'm most passionate about is an epic female-driven limited series immersed in Cajun history. It's called La Famille!
Logline: Seven generations of Cajun women settle new lands and fight for a life that is their own.

#SpecScriptShoutOut for NO GHOSTS TONIGHT.

Adele Smaill's humane story of migrants facing a treacherous Channel crossing, told with compassion and understanding.

Screenwriters are often asked, "Why does this story need to be told now?" Not something you'll be asking about this one...

Just finished Opulence by @lisalueylutes.bsky.social , a mockumentary style feature about cruise ship life and the people who love to cruise.

Funny, irreverent, silly and charming.

Worth your time.

Huge thanks to Adele for the kind words about VOICELESS, and for kicking off a #SpecScriptShoutOut chain last night.

I’m hoping to read more peer scripts this year, so if there are standouts that spring to mind, give them a boost.

#SpecScriptShoutOut to Adele’s script NO GHOSTS TONIGHT. A terrific and haunting thriller about a young woman attempting to cross the Channel with all the danger that comes with it. Great writing for a timely story. Shook me to my core. #ScriptSky @theartofcharts.bsky.social

I have a few greats worth noting.

@realtimbrennan.bsky.social A Bullet For Mari, a taut black female western.

@leahfromsd.bsky.social Headless over Heels, a romcom horror you won’t believe.

@avishaiw.bsky.social Tour of Devastation, a mind blowing monster feature.

Got to read @juliapearlstein.bsky.social’s Andy and Me and it’s a lovely creative take on a biopic for art history nerds and anyone with complicated relationships with their parents.

I will be broken record about this , but I read @rudiomeara.bsky.social THE ESCAPIST two years ago and it remains the best I've ever read. It's as delicate as it is audacious. I aspire to this level of writing. #SpecScriptShoutOut

David Dean's VOICELESS -a moving supernatural Western, follows a young girl whose unexpected power has smartly and subtly handled ramifications. Fizzing with ideas, it keeps the reader guessing and engaged.

#specscriptshoutout WE GOT THE BEAT by @evardeman.bsky.social is a fresh, sweet, coming of age story set in the 80s that I breezed through in one sitting. Any indie producers looking for family content, this one is a winner.

#specscriptshoutout First peer swap of the year was a delightful read. SENIOR DITCH DAY by @matthewnicholson.bsky.social was a heartfelt comedy that felt authentic. Lots of movies about senior citizens try to sound edgy but come across wrong. This kept the humor and spark without feeling forced.

Just finished @witchcorps.bsky.social feature, Cunning Folk.

A lyrical, ethereal, fantastical horror story about what happens when you don’t respect the mythical world.

Beautiful things are meant to be free, or they can kill you.

I recommend this story.

IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE - @colbyday.com

The fastest I'll likely go between reading a script and watching the actual movie (GO SEE THIS AT SUNDANCE), but...wow. This script is something else. An expansive emotional epic across time that I simply cannot wait to see.

THE DEEP END - @saraphinar.bsky.social

A really bold, yet simple premise that is deeply rooted in the emotion of its characters. An ever changing tale of how innovation can quickly turn to nightmare.

THE LAST LAUGH - @leahfromsd.bsky.social

An early read for me this year, but a memorable one. Dark dystopian, sci-fi thrillers never felt this icky (in a good way!) due to their timeliness.

MY LADY IN PARIS - @scotterybarn.bsky.social

Hilariously absurd and poignant in equal measure, I dare say this is Scott's masterpiece. A collection of stories about a story so engrossing that will make you reconsider how artists interact with their art.

I've read around 75+ scripts this year.

With December wrapping up, I thought it'd be a good time to give a year end #SpecScriptShoutOut to some of the most memorable scripts I got to experience this year.

MAYFLY by @coiledmortal.bsky.social made me laugh so hard. An Airplane style sex comedy about the battle between porn stars and sexy aliens, I loved every moment of this breath of fresh air. The world is hard, but this script is full of the right kind of hard.

Sorry for the vague #SpecScriptShoutout but very few writers could take an already excellent horror script, tear it down to the studs and build it back up as a refreshing, memorable and sickening story.

@joefavalaro.bsky.social is one of those writers.

Y'all ain't ready for this one...

Had honorable pleasure of twice reading REQUIEM FOR AN ASSASSIN from @barrsteve.bsky.social . Part BOURNE IDENTITY, part RED, part lots of other very cool very smart things. One of my favorite scripts I've read this year.

Absolutely recommended for #TheGreyList.
