I almost FORGOT!!!! Yesterday there were a handful of ring-necked ducks on the farm pond. They come every year. This seems early. Seems like I remember them coming after March 20th for a week or two. In any case, at least a few have showed up for #SpringMigration

March 10 #SpringMigration rolling along. I heard my first eastern meadowlark this evening. I actually got a hit on Merlin a few days ago but I didn't hear it. This is a bird song I can recognize so I'm not counting it until today. 😁

From Ohiodnr.gov., Green herons are primarily a species of streams, and when flushed, emit a loud, distinctive skow sound. Green herons often call at night when flying overhead, too. An interesting behavioral facet is their use of tools; green herons sometimes drop feathers on the water to lure fish. Besides fish, green herons also feed on frogs and invertebrates.
