I think I just saw nearly 50 tundra swans migrating north! #SpringMigration
A song sparrow is perched on a thin vine wrapped around a small tree, in profile view looking to the right, mouth open singing. The background is blurred out and is the same soft brownish colours as the bird.
Yesterday was a glorious day for spring migration. Literally thousands of tundra swans on the move, including a flock over our neighbourhood, lots of killdeer flying around calling, and my first backyard Song Sparrow of spring. #birds #birding #Ancaster #HamOnt #Bobsbackyard #springmigration
A screenshot of the Merlin bird ID app: Eastern meadowlark, red-winged blackbird, song sparrow.
March 10 #SpringMigration rolling along. I heard my first eastern meadowlark this evening. I actually got a hit on Merlin a few days ago but I didn't hear it. This is a bird song I can recognize so I'm not counting it until today. π

A list of birds heard on the Merlin bird ID app: killdeer, green-winged teal, eastern bluebird, American Robin, Red winged blackbird, Canada goose.
A large dark bird soaring in the clouds.
2 more birds to the #SpringMigration tally. A dozen green-winged teal in the flooded end of the field. And a turkey vulture I didn't really see because everyone from NE Ohio knows the turkey vultures don't return until the official Hinckley buzzard spotter sees one on March 15th.π

Oh sure the redwings, grackles and cowbirds showed up last week. But it's the return of the woodcock that really signals #SpringMigration to me. I'm absolutely grinning at hearing one in the backyard this morning.
Spring migration starts now! πΊ πͺΆ BirdCast is a great way to see which bird species may stop in your yard on their way north. #Haikubox owners also get new bird alerts, so they know when new birds arrive.

Center right of frame, facing forward, looking right standing on bed of decaying reeds. From Ohiodnr.gov., Green herons are primarily a species of streams, and when flushed, emit a loud, distinctive skow sound. Green herons often call at night when flying overhead, too. An interesting behavioral facet is their use of tools; green herons sometimes drop feathers on the water to lure fish. Besides fish, green herons also feed on frogs and invertebrates.
Happy Friday friends... the best birding experience usually happens when your first bird at a park is someone unexpected. This Green Heron fits the bill. #birds #ohbirding #wildlife #naturephotography #Herons #SpringMigration
A branch running diagonally through the photo sits a Blackburnian Warbler perched center right in frame, facing right. From abcbirds.org., The Blackburnian Warbler stands out among warblers for its bright orange and black breeding colors. It's the only warbler with an orange throat, making it relatively easy to distinguish from American Redstart β the only other warbler with orange and black plumage.
Happy #WarblerWednesday friends... Who can resist this beautiful Blackburnian warbler's simple charms? Certainly, not I. Photo taken May 17th at the end of the #BWIAB festival on the Magee Marsh boardwalk. #birds #ohbirding #wildlife #naturephotography #Newworldwarbler #WoodWarbler #springmigration
