A male Common Yellowthroat, which is a small warbler with an olive-brown back, wings, and tail, and a bright yellow throat and chest. He also has a distinct black face mask bordered above by a white band. This bird was perched on a thin twig of a plant out in the marsh, and surrounded by other brown and beige twigs and stalks. The background is a blurred brown color with a small spot of green in the middle of the photo. Seen at Great Meadows NWR in Concord, Massachusetts.

A yellow, black and gray bird is perched on a branch. This is a Magnolia Warbler – a songbird that breeds in dense conifers, particularly second-growth spruce trees. The Magnolia Warbler is one of the many misnamed birds. The bird has no connection to magnolias. Both the species name (magnolia) and the nonscientific name – Magnolia Warbler – trace back to 1810, when ornithologist Alexander Wilson collected a warbler from a magnolia tree in Mississippi. Wilson apparently recommended the more descriptive name "Black-and-Yellow Warbler," and some 19th century sources lists the species by that name. However, the inappropriate "Magnolia Warbler" is the name in use today.

A small blue and white bird with a black throat is posing against a background of green leaves. It’s a Blue-headed Warbler. They winter south of us and we see them here in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York in the spring and summer when they arrive here to breed. They breed in northern hardwood or mixed forests, and they like a thick understory of shrubs, where this bird is posing for me.

The female Eurasian Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) that's been hanging around the garden was back today. Partaking of a little apple. She almost grabs a bug at the end of the video. I think she realized it was a bee and decided to let it go. 😀 #BirdingHungary #warblers

A fine-looking yellow and grey bird with a gray head and dark patch on his chest is perched on a branch. This photo was taken near Lake Placid, in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. The Mourning Warbler was named by Alexander Wilson, an ornithologist, who shot the bird in 1820 on the border of a marsh near Philadelphia: Apparently the dark hood reminded him of 19th century mourning dress, because he later noted: "The singular appearance of the head, neck and breast, suggested the name."

A small bird with gray upper parts and white underparts is posing on a branch. The bird has a yellow throat and prominent white eye crescents. Northern Parulas are usually described as warblers of the upper canopy, most often seen on their breeding grounds flitting and hopping rapidly through the upper levels of the forest and sub-canopy. These birds are among those warblers who cause birders to complain of "warbler neck" – ache and stiffness in the neck and shoulders caused by spending an extended period of time looking up into the treetops. I photographed this little bird in a forest near Lake Placid, in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.
