Stereo pair image of Comet Hale-Bopp taken 45 minutes apart in Shoshone National Forest, Wyoming on March 25. The slight difference in viewing angles creates a 3D effect when viewed with crossed eyes. The background stars are carefully matched for optimal merging. A collaborative project by J. Modjallal and M. Frost.

This is a chromostereoptic image with a back background. An image of an eye in red and blue that appears in 3D to most of its viewers. The white of the eye is blue , the iris is red, and the pupil is blue. There are red and blue lightning bolts around it.

Good morning! I’ve been asked several times about the image in my cover photo. It’s the center of a larger chromostereoptic image. More about that in comments to this post.
