🌲💧Este trabajo pone en valor el papel clave de especies nativas para mantener la funcionalidad ecológica de los ecosistemas fluviales, incluso cuando están rodeados de paisajes forestales transformados.

A larvae of *corydalus texanus* (Megaloptera:Corydalidae) seen digging a burrow in a sandy stream bank in order to pupate. The larvae is large, dark and leather. The most distinctive feature is its large sclerotized head with mean-looking mandibles.

It must be #Dobsonfly season. I just spent 3 days on the Colorado River and we saw no less than 5 #Hellgrammite larvae crawling on the bank. These aquatic species dig a burrow in the bank to pupate before the short-lived adults emerge to reproduce. #AquaticInvertebrates #streamEcology

Brown trout were hungry, gorging on allochthonous inputs of cicadas. Diets were collected in mountain streams of the Santa Fe National Forest (New Mexico). Healthy forests, healthy food webs, well fed fishes (including non-native trout)

Out with these two again for some #urbanecology #streamecology. This was our last day of #fieldwork for 2024. I always grieve the end of fun in the sun, but look forward to fun in the lab.

They were very excited about the crayfish we found (😊), so we “struck a pose.”

It was a great cambari-dae!

Closer upstream view of the beaver dam with me to the left of the frame giving the hang loose hand sign with a big dumb, happy grin.

Photo of the steep stream bank with an excavated burrow exposed just above the water level. Most of our local beavers use bank burrows as homes.

Close up of a nearby willow limb that has been pruned by beaver & is resprouting multiple new branches - this is called coppicing.

Happy #WoodJamWednesday rockers!!! Found a sweet seasonal (low flow) beaver dam in one of our local creeks - providing so many beneficial ecological services!! #Beaver #BeaverBeliever #Nature #StreamEcology #SalmonHabitat 🦫 🌿

Did you know that some fungi live in rivers? They are important players in stream food webs, produce interesting bioactive compounds, AND are beautiful. Thanks to Ludmila Marvanová for isolating this one from Portugal. 2 spores.
