13 February 1923 – Chuck Yeager is born — On 13 February 1923, Charles Elwood “Chuck” Yeager, a USAF officer, combat ace, and test pilot, was born in Myra, West Virginia.

Today marks the 103rd anniversary of the birth of #ChuckYeager, one of the most #iconic figures in aviation history. From decorated #CombatAce to pioneering #TestPilot who helped usher in the #supersonic age, he left an enduring mark on aerospace development and the course of modern flight.

Fifty years ago Concorde made its first commercial flight. Seven years earlier in April 1969, Brian Trubshaw was the first British pilot to fly Concorde. His grave can be found in the churchyard of St Nicholas, Cherington, in the Cotswolds.

I only knew the basics of #ClarkGable's life so this brilliant biography was a fascinating, page-turning eye-opener about the King of Hollywood.

A very interesting and latterly very-troubled man and I expect this'll send me back to #RedDust, #ManhattanMelodrama and #TestPilot.
