A large area in the Thetford forest with the top soil removed (one of several). Is this to create habitat for Woodlarks, I wonder?
And a Crossbill at a drinking pool.

The pin-tailed profile of an upended Pintail duck. Technically a Pintail drake, as this is a male.
A close crop of a wader flock showing three Ruff separated by a Redshank that is facing in the opposite direction.
A Mediterranean Gull in "You ain't seen me. Right?" mode hiding among the Black-headed Gulls. The images shows the white primaries/wing tips and the black "hood", quite different from the dark brown "caps" and black wing tips of the Black-headed Gulls.
Managed a couple of hours at RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands today after running errands on the Wirral.
Highlights were 130+ Avocet, even more Black-tailed Godwit, three Ruff, two Marsh Harrier, five Pintail, plus a Stoat that dashed across the track near the Border Hide.

Another look at the Mow Cop Shorelark, on the Cheshire-Staffs border this PM. Showed well for 20mins. A striking Bird - 49 days on site I believe. Image of the ‘Border’ wall -Cheshire on the far side is where the Bird frequents #Birds #UKBirding #Birdphotography 🦉🪶

This is a high-resolution, profile-view photograph of a Western Jackdaw (Coloeus monedula). The bird is captured in sharp detail, standing on a textured, light-grey stone or concrete surface. Key Features of the Bird • Plumage: The majority of its feathers are a deep, matte black, but it features a distinctive silvery-grey nape (the back of the neck) and ear coverts, which contrast against a darker black "cap" on its head. • Eyes: The most striking feature is its pale white or light-blue iris, which stands out sharply against its dark face. • Beak: It has a relatively short, stout black bill, typical of the corvid family (crows and ravens). • Stance: The bird is leaning slightly forward, with its dark, scaly legs and sharp claws clearly visible against the ground. Composition and Background The lighting is soft and natural, highlighting the subtle textures of the feathers. The background is minimalist, consisting of a blurred, pale vertical surface (likely a wall) to the right and the grainy texture of the pavement below, which keeps the focus entirely on the jackdaw.
Good Evening and Goodnight Bluesky Folks!
Here’s my final picture of the day: another Eurasian jackdaw I spotted in my local town yesterday. It was captured with my trusty Canon EOS R50.

An out of focus picture of a Blue Tit that is hanging upside down with its backside to the camera from a branch of a bush and tree trunk. There are two light brown tree trunks next to each other with chunky striped bark and the Blue Tit is hanging midway up the inside of the tree on the left. There are vine branches with green leaves criss crossing the frame and small patches of blue sky visible between the two tree trunks at the top of the frame.
For @javajanegallery.co.uk #SmallBirdSaturday this little upside down Blue Tit was doing all sorts of clever acrobatics while feeding, it was hard to keep up. #birds #nature #photography #ECK #ukbirding
Another Dunnock for @alan678.bsky.social #BirdOfTheDay theme of #GreyDay.
This Dunnock definitely needs a diet, either that or it's got trapped wind 😂.
This is a snapshot of the rear camera screen so the quality isn't the best.

Amongst the large numbers of greylag geese giving great views at Insh Marsh today, distant Canada & Barnacle geese were both nice year ticks.

Chuffed to find a Bonaparte’s Gull on the patch last thing this evening. I’ve been looking hard the last few weeks, so finally paid off. 😊 #OtterEstuaryNR #UKBirding #DevonBirds
Headed to Insh Marsh this morning looking for the recent resident snow goose but was surprised to spot a totally different white bird, an unexpected Iceland Gull.

Woodlark at Budby showed well, though we only had a few bursts of subsong today. Two Goshawk over Welbeck showed well but too far for photos. #ukbirding #birds #birdsseenin2026

Fair to say the Lapland Bunting at Saltfleetby showed very well this morning, though my camera struggles prevented me taking full advantage of its fearlessness. #ukbirding #birds

Cracking time as always at Frampton Marsh. Best was a much hoped for Spoonbill. It landed in front of the cafe!
Pleased as punch to welcome back my first Little-ringed plovers of the year. Raptors, Ruffs & the rest.

Anhinga, captured with it's back to camera, in full sun. Large black water bird, wide flat tail, long black neck, sharp long beak, the better to skewer fish with. Wings spread wide to dry while it prepares for another dive. Distinctive white pattern of lines on wing-backs.
Eastern Phoebe, right profile on a roof edge. Small bird, mostly grey on most of back, darker grey on head, leading edge of wings going to light brown. White stripes in wings, black eyes, short beak.
Blue Gray Gnatcatcher. Tiny bird, quick furtive movements, hard to capture photographs due to always moving quickly and staying in dense cover. This one is seen in dense brush, stretching up a bit, peeking around a branch towards photographer. Gray back and head, going to pale white underneath. Short very pointed beak, black eyes with a distinctive white ring around the eyes.
Purple Gallinule, a swamp dweller, seen hunting amongst the swamp vegetation. Iridescent coloration going from dark purple through blue and green and grey on back, back of wings, green tail. Bright red section of short beak which ends in a bright yellow tip.
Entries for today's themes for #BirdOfTheDay, any bird with Grey in their plumage, the Alt theme any capture showing feather patterns, reflections or unusual framing.
2 for #Abstract - Anhinga and Purple Gallinule

This is a high-resolution, close-up photograph of a Western Jackdaw (Coloeus monedula) standing on a textured, grey stone or concrete surface. Key Features of the Bird • Plumage: The bird has primarily black feathers, but it is distinguished by a prominent silvery-grey nape (the back of the neck) and cheeks, which creates a hooded appearance. • Eyes: It features a striking, pale white or light blue iris, a characteristic trait of adult jackdaws that gives them a very piercing gaze. • Beak: The beak is short, stout, and black. There appears to be a small morsel of food caught on the tip of its bill. • Posture: The jackdaw is captured in a profile view, standing firmly on its dark, scaled legs with its sharp talons visible against the ground. Composition and Setting • Background: The background consists of a slightly out-of-focus pavement or patio made of small pebbles and stone. The shallow depth of field keeps the focus sharply on the bird’s textures. • Lighting: The lighting is soft and natural, highlighting the iridescent quality of the black feathers on its wings and the fine details of the grey feathers on its head.
Good Afternoon Bluesky Folks!
While visiting my local town centre, I managed to capture this Eurasian jackdaw in the middle of the walkway.
