The Pennsylvania Pellitory (Parietaria pensylvanica) should be popping out everywhere around here soon. It will grow out of anything, including tiny cracks in walls, which is a great advantage here. These shots were taken in Whitman on April 18th of last year. #UrbanBotany #UrbanFlora

Saturday, I went out to where I'd found Knawel (Scleranthus annuus) and Cutleaf Evening Primrose (Oenothera laciniata) growing together (which I now realize this is technically in Marconi East). This is what I found in the cracks.

I had thought that these were Acalypha virginica, but I now realize on inspection that these are Rhomboid Mercury (Acalypha rhomboidia). I have deleted a few previous posts of this population as tiny, undeveloped plants. These were shot on August 5th of last year.

Two photos: left Red Valerian, no longer upright, but lying on a tarmac pavement. Right: Ragwort. One of three or four plants in a small patch of green with trees and grass in Leicester city centre..

Too cold for flowers (and me!) today. Red Valerian (the only flower) by a pavement, and Ragwort. #WildFlowerHour #UrbanBotany

Us urban botanists aren't often put off by inclement weather. An annual tradition is a 1st Dec hunt for wild plants in flower in Deptford, SE London. Here I am in the rain on Mon checking the seed shape of Beaked Hawk's-beard, more usually in flower in London in May. #urbanbotany #urbannature
