Before we end the #PalaisGalliera 's Worth: Inventor of Haute Couture exhibit, I am going to do a few posts showing some other non-outfit posts that the museum had on display. One such incredible collection of items was these sketches of Worth's fancy dress costumes from #VandAMuseum.

Ncuti Gatwa & Edward Bluemel Get 💘 Bromantic💘 Over Shakespeare Treasures ⚔️ Unexpected Item
Ncuti Gatwa & Edward Bluemel Get 💘 Bromantic💘 Over Shakespeare Treasures ⚔️ Unexpected Item 👀 Who knew Shakespeare could be this steamy? 😮💨 In this episode of Unexpected Item, Ncuti Gatwa and Edward Bluemel get up-close to some REAL artefacts from Shakespeare's era. From a dagger with a message that resonates with Jägerbombs and vaping, to the first ever copy of Shakespeare's full works being (quite a bit) sexier than anticipated... The dreamy duo channel their onstage personas of William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe in the play Born With Teeth – with the Elizabethan objects bringing to life the drama, conflicts, flirting, and lust between the playwrights. 00:00 Introduction 00:45 The first folio of Shakespeare’s plays, published in 1623 01:36 Ncuti Gatwa's favourite Shakespeare 01:54 Edward Bluemel's saucy Shakespeare 02:56 Two works by Christopher Marlowe 03:36 Who was Christopher Marlowe? 04:30 Dudgeon Dagger from 1605 04:59 Pen case from about 1600 05:35 Shakespeare and Marlowe's For You pages 06:24 Plague pomander made in 1600...

In the 18th century, Japanese craftsmen made netsuke in the form of standing European figures. Many of them were shown holding an animal, like this Dutchman with a dog. The Dutchman's eyes and nose are exaggerated, and he wears a layered outfit with pantaloons and hose, along with a typical, large Dutch hat. The ivory has aged and turned yellowish-orange.

I’ve always loved Japanese #netsuke and this ivory caricature of a Dutchman and his dog was too good not to share. Netsuke is a toggle. Japanese men used netsuke to suspend various pouches and containers from their sashes by a silk cord.

Period, 18th century. #VandAMuseum

For #WeddingWednesday, here is a dress worn by Flora Diamond when she married Philip Jacobs in June 1923 in Bayswater Synagogue in London. It was designed by Aida Woolf, a teacher turned dressmaker. She was also married in a synagogue, so was also most likely Jewish. #VandAMuseum #Fashionhistory
