“Yeah!” Antin added. “Or else they will lead us to literal oblivion!”
Zhe’ra turned to look at her great grandson. “Bill, when you and Ar’Thyl were underground, you said you encountered someone there that helped you?” Bill nodded. She turned to Antin. “And when I read your retelling of your time in Boulder – you, and Nyx – a village I recall hearing of in my youth, by the way – you said some kind of serpent creature tried to help you? Could they be the same creatures?”
Bill shook his head. “The ones I thought I saw looked like people, but something about them seemed different,”
And I was asleep, strangely so, unaware of anything happening. But someone had brought sustenance to my Aludim in the night. Ar’Thyl sent a memory to Zhe’ra and Georgios, of them waking up to find a plate of sandwiches.
Tannamir bent to meet their eyes. Now dear Aludim, lest their family think we are hoarding their kin, we should take a break to rest before the feast tonight.
“Feast?” Bill asked.
“Yes, good idea Tannamir!” Georgios said. “To celebrate your return to us, and that your mother had agreed to become our resident medical practitioner! We’ve invited Rebecca and Toby to join us in the tower dining area in an hour. Dofhâwr is upstairs setting up as we speak.”
Me and Nyx will do a patrol around the island. Ar’Thyl said. Bill got the impression his beloved Aludim wanted him to spend time alone with Antin…
“Let’s hope you disappearing will be the worst thing this summer.” Antin said. “Though I suppose something will surpass it before the war is done.”
Bill followed Antin out of the main chamber “I know, right! But I’m not sure what’s worse – facing another seething Dreth – or facing another sourly military officer.”
“No, let's not repeat of that either!” Antin flapped down into one of the couches in the outer hallway.
Bill sat down next to him, “I fear we will, though. Face both. I hope the others return before the ambassadors start showing up though.”

#WIPSnips: a dreary situation

"Try as I might, I can't seem to address the infection. I tell Claudia she absolutely needs to rest and give Eugenie strict instructions on how to care for her, promising to return with a better remedy soon. I just hope I can keep that promise before it's too late..."

I went for a synonym too,"Yeah Lynn these cold xoxo shakes were amazing and completely sold out, we shall make more tomorrow." I got the text that my medicine arrived at the pharmacy so this time I called Paul. He said he would pick me up if I could get there. #WIPSnips charming chocolates

My vacation is at its end, and tomorrow brings another dreary year's worth of work. I glance up at the shadows painted across the ceiling, a deep sigh escaping my lips.

Background: An old man of South Asian appearance wearing a space suit and making a passionate speech. He's in a grand, old building.

Mum's first reaction to the explosion was to try to get out of Targraph. We: me, Mum and Printorac, were eating at an outside table of a cafe and had been watching the state opening of parliament on a large internet screen. It was blue day which always seemed a bit gloomy and ominous to me. People screamed and several alarms started blaring. I was thinking if I should really care about the government being killed, but I snapped out of it and used calming spells on some of the more hysterical people nearby, using my avatar power. A man went past in a car, screaming. The car came quickly to a stop and I suspected that Printorac had used his avatar power. I realized all the vehicles that had been moving seemed to be stopping, a couple crashing with a screech of conflicting protective spells. I hurried to finish my meal and drink, as I was hungry and thirsty. Mum, being the law-abiding citizen (mostly, being a hipsickah she hasn't really thought through her ideology) she was, wanted to pay our bill before leaving.

Some people were coming out from the indoor portion of the cafe and others were jumping over the low wall onto the street.

"You'll have to wait to pay!" said a waiter. "Our billing machine's down."

I realized the internet screen no longer seemed to be working.

"EMP," said Printorac. "It fried everything electrical that was switched on, those alarms probably weren't destroyed because they were activated by the shock wave, which arrived after the EMP."

"You mean a nuke?" asked a man who must have overheard.

"Seems rather small for a nuke," said Printorac, "perhaps more like a plasma bomb."

"They're illegal!" said the man.

"So are nukes," said Printorac.

#WIPSnips March 15 dreary
I don't use this word so I went with "gloomy".
The parliament building has just exploded.

"Gloomy" is close enough, methinks.

The darkness within caught her by surprise. By contrast to the well-lit, lavish corridor, the gloomy playroom looked like a cavern.

Another substitution for today’s #WIPSnips as I’m using dull to make up for the lack of dreary in my work for.

A moment of entrancement as the Strange magics do their work on Una’s mind in a way she hadn’t been experienced or prepared for.

The morning dawned drear and windy. Bhòid followed Ruad and Leukos as they launched the boat into the water, knee-deep. Suddenly Leukos flung himself sideways against Ruad, knocking him into the deeper water, leaving the boat to drift.

Fiada's recommendation:
'The Aurochs won’t use the sling because it’s a woman’s weapon. But it has greater range than the spear and the stones need no work. Train in secret, make the Gannets a clan of expert slingers, but let no one else know.'

The door opened again, and Sidriel trudged in. Seeing them at the table he paused, then turned toward the freezer. “Late night ice cream party it is,” he said in a dreary tone.

“Get the strawberries,” Raphael told him, and Tempest looked around with sudden interest.

Paragraph extract: Orson was a small city by modern standards, but it was huge to a country kid like me. You’d have thought its many gridlocked streets would make it lifeless, but it retained a charm and character that I found reassuring. It was a city of contrasts. In the business district, skyscrapers interspersed with architecture from another era, with wide streets and coloured storefronts that made up for the frequent dreary weather. Barber shops stood proudly beside glossy office blocks. Rather than clashing, Orson welcomed the variety with open arms. Closer to the sea, the streets abandoned the modern touches. Salt-stained wooden buildings stretched from a promenade to the pier front where small fishing vessels moored, relics of a booming trade now long past their expiration date.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a dreary! I use it to describe the city where the protagonist lives. #WIPSnips #WritiingPrompts #WritingCommunity

Clearer skies tried to return, hidden behind dreary clouds as the day moved on. Our efforts continued steadily, but soon the rains were upon us. Before the storm grew too fierce, we sought shelter in one of the taverns to keep ourselves dry. We shared a meal, and I shared more of my stories. Sooner than expected, the rain calmed. Brisk winds were quick to follow in the storm’s wake. Teowolf was rather verbal on the subject, expressing his contempt for Riotion with frequency. A simple reminder that I had been subject to such conditions for years silenced him quickly.

How have I not used the word dreary in all 560k words so far? Weird. Have Tennyson trapped in a gloomy closet instead, I guess...
