One of my photos from Sandoval Lake, in the Amazon basin of Peru. A Cocoi heron taking flight. Shots like this made carrying my giant 200-500mm lens everywhere worthwhile.

We trekked through the Amazon jungle this afternoon, climbed an observation tower to observe wildlife and the sunset, and saw all sorts of night creatures on the way back.

It's almost dinnertime and we've worked up an appetite.

Cobalt-winged Parakeets as they burst from the site of the salt water spring in the upper Amazon basin near the Napo river. Movie at next post. There are multiple sites like this one that birds flock to to get needed salts and minerals. We sat for several hours before we saw these fellows, scarlet Maccaws and a Blue-throated Piping Guan.Yep he is on my life list, yours? All for later posting.
