Hello Whales, Seals, & Moray Eels! We recently released a new set of stylish Valentine’s Day merchandise fantastic for you & that marine enthusiast in your life! The two stars of our lineup are the Vampire Squid, & Pacific Footballfish! The Vampire Squid is an intriguing species of deep-sea cephalopod, known for its ghastly appearance, rusty reddish colour, & propensity to curl into a “pineapple pose”, when feeling threatened or shy. Vampire Squids, as with all cephalopods, have 3 hearts, showing your lover that you have enough affection to fill not just 1, but 3 hearts! The Pacific Footballfish is a species of deep-sea anglerfish, known for its gelatinous appearance, & interesting reproductive methods! You see, with anglerfish, the males exist only to serve one purpose: reproduction. Shortly after hatching, males will use their keen sense of smell to find a female, & essentially attach themselves to her by biting her skin. After attaching, he will only exist to provide the female with sperm when she wishes. This is a prime example of sexual parasitism, & highlights all the strange & wonderful ways that love is expressed across the animal kingdom!
