When we receive a new #ArchiveCollection, it often undergoes a thorough process before it becomes accessible. For example, this collection of photos from the Kaines-Thomas papers has been surveyed & weeded, and a listing has been created in preparation for cataloguing. #Archive30
Sheets of paper pasted with newspaper cuttings from the 1950s featuring articles on supposed earthquakes in the village of Winster. One title states "Down they go to solve Winster's mystery". Another includes a photograph of male cavers underground. They wear helmets and carry acetylene lamps.
Our #ArchiveOfTheWeek are papers of Margaret Howard, member of the Operation Mole Speleological Group and Peak District Mines Historical Society. They investigated “earthquakes” or tremors at Winster in the #1950s which turned out to be collapsing limestone caverns.
