A large pair of vintage 1930s 40s handmade sterling silver Chinese Shou Longevity design screwback earrings from Hong Kong. The Chinese character "shou" (寿/壽) represents "longevity" or "long life". It is a common symbol of good fortune and is often used to express wishes for a healthy and prosperous life. These earrings are entirely handmade from solid sterling silver, and dangle from the screwback surmount. The pendant dangle is a ring of silver, and a Chinese character 'shot', both of which dangle freely and can move around independently when worn. The earrings measure 2.25" tall by just over 1.5" wide, and the pair weigh 8.8 grams total. Marked at backs as shown, "Made in H.K. Sterling Silver". HK of course is Hong Kong, which until 1999 was still a British Colony. A fine pair, and nearly antique! Excellent vintage condition.
