A Kookaburra that I was watching hunt, flying to and from the ground finding large bugs. I like how the overcast weather created some very vibrant colours.

Always nice to get a cool, refreshing drink on a stinking hot day 🔥☀️

This joey still drinks milk from mum’s pouch but has also started investigating the water available around our property💧

We get some big female Huntsman Spiders can be 130mm or bigger. This one is about half that size so maybe a male. Anyway they are welcome in the house ... except in the bedrooms 😀

Profile shot of a skittish sulphur-crested cockatoo with a fully erect crest, perched on a deck railing, with lush green foliage in the background.

These critters come down looking for seed, which we occasionally put out. But they are not fully comfortable on our deck, which is the way it should be.

This little cutie has been visiting us for a few weeks now. We recently moved the garden camera to see who uses this water bowl and have been able to catch this little rosella a few times.

Our local quoll showed up again and this time I actually managed to get a decent picture. This might be the best thing that has ever happened to me. #auswildlife #wildoz #marsupial #mammal

It’s been a hot few days in the Perth Hills and the bird baths have been in high demand from lots of our garden wildlife.

Like this lovely Bronze Wing, who had a good long bathe today… I think he was in there for at least 5 minutes 🪶💧

The Southern Greater Glider in the Caveat Forest – a timeline [I’m posting this story with a heavy heart. I’d already written most of this a few months ago and was trying to tidy up a few loose ends. Then, on January 8, a Thursday, a bushfire star…

The last popn of the #auswildlife #southerngreaterglider (Petauroides volans) in the western Strathbogie Ranges numbers less than 100. It has survived land clearing, fire and genetic bottleneck. Can it survive an uncertain #climate future? 🌏

Land Mullet, we think it is a female as we have an even larger and darker big fella hanging around. She is approx 400mm long, the male is around 600mm long

If you put out fresh water for the wildlife in your garden maybe consider topping it up each evening for our nocturnal critters… they’ll be grateful for a drink on a hot day too💧

Our gardens can be a haven for local wildlife 🦘🦜🦎🐛🦋🕷️

🌿 Plant species local to your area
🌳 Create safe habitats
🐝 Consider a bee hotel suitable for your local native species

Large carpet python on the ground and well camouflaged amongst green and brown foliage.

It wouldn't be able to move too well after an obvious recent meal. I'm guessing possum.

It was preparing to give me a nip when I eventually noticed it. Thankful it gave me the benefit of the doubt.

Not getting bitten by a large #snake you nearly stepped on while gardening is right up there on my list of thing to achieve every day.

This beauty seems to be resting after a successful hunt.
