Looking directly down to a pavement and a utility access cover. The cement paving slabs have slightly different textures and colours (and discolouration). The dark metal plate has a pattern of small crosses, each composed of four triangles. At the center, a light, bright metal badge has been attached with rivets, covering the manufacturer's name. This new label has debossed lettering that reads "FAB." Dorchester Street, Bath, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

The ultimate aesthetic showdown. ✨ Bath’s golden stone vs. Haarlem’s iconic canals. Both are stunning, both are expensive—but only one has the better commute to the capital. #bathuk #haarlem #beautifulcities #travelgoals #expatnl #architecturelovers #ukvsnl
A monochrome photograph of the interior of a narrow bus station with floor-to-ceiling windows. On the left, the glass doors to the parking bays have large numerals applied to their centres. The afternoon sun casts shadows of the numbers 4, 3, and 2 onto the tiled floor. On the right, three people await transportation: a standing man looks into the lens, and two people (one sitting on the floor) stare into handheld devices. Inside a former railway station with a vaulted glass roof supported by a series of semi-circular wrought-iron arches. The space is dominated by a wooden floor (with numerous metal strips attached to it at random angles). At the back, there are a few car parking spaces, and along the sides are market stalls and food outlets. Green Park Station (Bath, UK) was designed by John Holloway Sanders and opened in 1870. Passenger trains ceased in 1966 and the last goods train ran in 1971. It has become an active retail and events space (more so at weekends, rather than the Wednesday afternoon that this photo was taken on). Photo by Gearóid Burke.

A high contrast monotone photograph of a wooden floor. The large wood panels have numerous thin metal strips attached to them at apparently random angles. I think that these are slider strips to protect the wood from damage when heavy items are moved around it for the weekly markets held at this venue. Green Park Station, Bath, UK. Looking down to a floor where stained hardwood meets decking boards. At the centre of the image, a slightly-raised rectangular panel of plywood has been screwed down and two pieces of yellow/black hazard tape have been applied diagonally from corner to corner, forming an X. The floor also features a thin metal strip attached to it at a 55˚ angle and, on the left, residue from old stickers and/or tape. Green Park Station, Bath, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

A Georgian townhouse in a terrace on a pedestrian street. The three storey building (plus attic and basement) dates from 1770. The ground floor is painted white up to a platband, above which is exposed Bath oolitic limestone. The first floor has an unusual balcony featuring a swept canopy with trellised supports. A view from a window at night. On the left, the back of a row of Victorian houses. Moving to the centre, cars on the street parallel to the window bring light and colour to the scene. A tree with dead leaves and more houses are on the right. In the middle distance are the lights of distant urban housing. And beyond all that is the silhouette of a hill with a copse at its apex—its trees are framed by the reflection of a white doorframe back inside the room. A circle (and its supports) cut out of granite. Through the aperture (and out of focus) is a landscape centred on a canal. Looking through a carved stone safety wall, the view south along the Kennet and Avon canal from Canal Bridge, Bathwick Hill, Bath, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke, July 2023.
Framed by a circular hole cut out of stone is an image of a canal, with a small powerboat, a canalboat, and a towpath with two people walking away from the camera. A highly-decorated arch spans over a pedestrianised street, linking two oolitic limestone Georgian buildings. People walk under the bridge-like structure which was built to disguise a large pipe. The duct was to bring warm spring water from the Roman baths on the left, to the City Laundry on the right. York Street, Bath, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.

A landscape at sunset. The sky changes from a muted blue at the top of the image to vibrant shades of gold below. Cumulus clouds seem almost black as they are backlit by the setting sun. At the bottom of the picture is a silhouetted hill with a copse of trees at its highpoint and to the right is a leafy tree branch. A monotone photograph of a Gothic country house with a church building to the right and a field in the foreground. The building has a trefoil plan formed by three semi-circular towers conjoined. The towers have embattled parapets. In front, there is an almost-overgrown gate with a sign that reads "PRIVATE" and "no access." Ominous dark clouds fill the sky. A narrow window with two horizontal stone mullions and leaded glass in a neat pattern of rectangles. The wall's bricks have the distinct yellow cast of Bath oolitic limestone, are stained in green near the ground. The right half of a double door can be seen, with an unusually-arched window. A series of curved metal screens mask and/or protect the building's roof-mounted heating or ventilation equipment. The former Bath City Laundry. Swallow Street, Bath, UK. Photo by Gearóid Burke.
