#BirdADay March 1
Eastern Bluebird
60 days!

Gadwall
Closing out February with a pretty good one… haven’t been keeping up with the posts this week but have been logging the birds.
I don’t think I’ll be able to string this quite into April, but we’ll see!
#BirdADay February 27
European Starling
Another last-resort bird worth a yawn. But I’m gonna make it into March!
#BirdADay February 26
House Finch
What can I say; no real birding but one of these was singing by my office.
#BirdADay February 25
Canada Goose
Catching up on a few days of lackluster results because I didn’t really go birding.
#BirdADay February 24
Mallard
Only waterfowl I saw today; better choice for this than any of the yard birds I suppose.
#BirdADay February 23
Ring-billed gull
Not so bad, not so good, keeps the streak going one more day!
#BirdADay February 22
Wood Duck
Another FOY, although this one I almost hate to use so soon because I’ll be seeing many more of them through the Spring.
#BirdADay February 21
Green-winged Teal
First sighting of this species for me this year.
A check-in on the overall project… I am feeling pretty good about stretching this into Spring migration without missing any days. I’ve got 19 “last resort” species left. Only used about 5 so far.
#BirdADay February 20
Swamp Sparrow
Last-minute savior for the day; not a bad one to use.
#BirdADay February 19
White-Breasted Nuthatch
Dreary day with little time to go birding anyway, so I don’t feel too bad using one of the old reliable yard species here.
#BirdADay February 18
Cedar Waxwing
Flock of 15-20 of these was passing through while I was on my afternoon walk. Not a bad bird to use for this challenge!
#BirdADay February 17
Purple Gallinule
Regrettably for this project, but thankfully for my family life, I am flying home this evening so tomorrow I’ll be back to my local expected species only!
#BirdADay February 16
Short-tailed Hawk
Wasn’t sure I’d be able to tick this species on the trip but I did! And a beautiful bird it was. Three days in a row of life birds!

Snowy Plover
How did I forget to post yesterday’s bird when it was also a lifer? Haze of travel I guess. Also fun to run into another birder and try to figure out winter plumage shorebirds with her at Ft DeSoto State Park!

Black-bellied Whistling-Duck
Lifer! But, I saw around 50 of these guys across a couple different locations today. Good start to the Florida trip!

Field Sparrow
Off to Florida for a work trip (OK I’m extending it to go birding over the weekend) after this one, so that should help me string this thing out a *bit* longer.
#BirdADay February 12
Eastern Towhee
Didn’t get this posted yesterday but this was the bird!
Admit it, darling
You love it when we scavenge
Nothing left for birds

Separate, but one

Black Vulture
I knew this week would be a little tight on time for birding, so still using some easy ones… traveling in a few days which should counterbalance a bit.
#BirdADay February 10
Blue Jay
Back-to-back fallback birds but I’m gonna try to get out into the field properly tomorrow.
#BirdADay February 9
Rock Pigeon
Listen. Birds like this were always gonna get used for this exercise *eventually.* This week is gonna be a tough one to find time.
#BirdADay February 8
Canvasback
Waterfowl in the area are conveniently congregating anywhere that isn’t frozen over, so that’s pretty helpful for keeping a chain like this going. I am beginning to think I *just might* be able to keep this going until Spring migration?
#BirdADay February 7
White-winged Scoter
I was actually chasing a Greater White-fronted Goose and hoping maybe for a Red-breasted Merganser or some Scaups. Didn’t see any of those but there was this surprise! It disappeared behind the hundreds of Canada geese but not before I got a nice look.
#BirdADay February 6
Yellow-rumped Warbler
A gift! I didn’t go birding today and was about to mark down mourning dove for the day, but as I was changing I looked out my bedroom window and one of these guys was foraging right t eye level.
#BirdADay February 5
Hermit Thrush
A skulky boi that can be found with a little effort here in the winter, but will be gone from the area by the end of March.
Oh shit I didn’t post yesterday’s bird, but it was my first “fallback” bird, meaning one I could find almost any day all year in my own yard.
