Meat & Livestock Australia Australian marketing and research organisation for the meat industry Meat & Livestock Australia is a marketing and research body for the Australian red meat and livestock industry. It is funded through levies paid on all livestock sales, as well as by the Australian government and through voluntary contributions from industry partners. Livestock accounts for over 14 percent of global emissions. The NGO Changing Markets Foundation has linked MLA to the meat and dairy industry's promotion of a new highly controversial metric for calculating warming from emissions, known as GWP*, which would allow the meat and dairy industry to slash their on paper emissions or even claim to be climate-neutral or climate-positive while emitting huge amounts of methane. The group also pushed for liberalisation of the UK meat import market following Brexit, according to Friends of the Earth. Big meat companies and lobby groups are planning a large presence at COP28. A communications document for sector groups, produced by the industry-funded Global Meat Alliance and viewed by DeSmog, states that Meat & Livestock Australia is amongst the industry groups attending. It expects to receive a number of passes as part of the Australian government delegation, giving it privileged access to all negotiations. Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) also plans to hold events at the Australian pavilion, as well as regular meetings with the Australian government before COP28 to discuss its plans, according to the
