I thought this building was going to be #builtgreen? The gold standard for built green is all exterior lights fully-shielded -and the choice in light color would never be the white of your sign, more amber, orange or red to minimize white (actually #bluelight-it looks white.)
Every year #BuiltGreen increases their environmental standards, yet #lightpollution advocates and organizations do not. Who is to blame, if we don’t communicate the latests standards, research generated ideals, and recommendations?
In #Seattle an @IDA member complained to me that #BuiltGreen doesn’t do a good job protecting night. Here is our chance (see below). When the “#LightPollution” advocates don’t communicate what our recommendations are, it is not them that fail-it is us.
@AlexSteffen Hello Alex- I see you are speaking at the #BuiltGreen conference. I’m a bit troubled by #buildgreen because their standards still allow light to escape. We’re trying to raise awareness that even LED lighting if it shines on habitat at night is the opposite of #Green

Instead #smartdesign would mount the light low and away from bedroom and bathroom windows /only lighting what is needed. This light is mounted at the door and away from windows #builtgreen #LightPollution
#builtgreen #architecture #livable design should be aware of the height of #outdoorlights. A light is not trying to alert you to an owl, or a 12 foot Sasquatch -why do we mount them above 6 feet causing them to shine in our very own windows & several of our neighbors as well ?
Last night’s #darkskyfriendly lighting is on #urban #builtgreen #townhomes. Look to the left and see @SEACityLight #over 4000K #streetlight. This light is brighter than the 4000K streetlights and has more light-spill. Why?
In Seattle #buildinggreen doesn’t necessarily mean the building is #darkskyfriendly. Let’s change that. Demand that #builtgreen is also doing it’s part for #humanhealth, for #wildlife, for #planthealth...
