Voyager 2 captured this stunning image of Neptune's atmosphere two hours before its closest approach in 1989. High-altitude, light-colored cirrus clouds and their shadows are visible, a first for the time. The blue color results from methane absorbing red light, and the planet boasts the fastest winds in our solar system.
