A scrappy looking Cooper's Hawk hunting pigeons above Jameson between King and Queen, Parkdale, Toronto.
It has nearly no tail feathers but seemed to be navigating the skies pretty good.

Camouflage... On the lookout. Late evening. Carlos The Cooper's Hawk, giving me his best over the shoulder look. He was in full hunting mode, surveying his territory. Very handsome.

A medium-small gray hawk with a russet chest and legs, white-ish face, striped under wings and thin yellow legs crouches over a furry something beneath it. The hawks wings are half spread to keep other hunters from snatching its prize.

A Coopers Hawk hoods over a baby bunny it just pounced on.
The image captures a Cooper's Hawk given its plumage, perched on a thick, gnarled tree branch. The hawk is positioned in the center-right of the frame, with its body angled away from the viewer but its head turned to look directly at the camera. Its eye is a striking yellow-orange, sharp and alert, conveying a sense of intelligence and predatory focus. The bird's feathers are predominantly white on its underside, transitioning to a brown and white striped pattern on its back and wings, with darker barred markings on its tail feathers, which are partially visible. Its talons, a pale yellow, grip the rough bark of the branch.
The image features a single hawk perched on a dark, thin branch. The hawk is facing away from the viewer, looking over its left shoulder with an intense gaze. Its feathers are a mix of dark grays, browns, and whites, intricately patterned, particularly on its back where the feathers overlap in a scale-like fashion. The underside of its neck and chest are lighter, with fine streaking. The hawk's sharp, hooked beak is visible, as is its dark, round eye with a lighter iris. Its talons are firmly gripping the branch. The tail feathers are long and banded with darker gray and white stripes, ending in a lighter fringe. The branch it is perched on is rough and dark, with some texture visible.
Only seconds to capture this Cooper’s hawk before it slipped into the shade

Happy Wednesday! My next bird is a Cooper's Hawk. I've seen one once in my garden! We heard a strange loud bird sound so grabbed my Merlin app to see what it was then spotted him up in a tree. Pretty cool! #bainbridgeislandbirds #pacificnorthwestbirds #birdart 🪶 #coopershawk
Cooper brings his small face to Itchycoo Park. It's all too beautiful!

Had a new visitor drop by the back garden today. This beautiful specimen of a Cooper’s Hawk stuck around for a couple of minutes thinking about the squirrels running around. #birdsofprey #coopershawk #fredericton

Brave McCoy budgie, gold, black, and green, called me in to save his friend Barry budgie today. He slapped my forehead with his wing and flapped around to get my attention, then I got up to pick up Barry, and saw a huge Cooper's hawk right at our living room window looking in hungrily at our Barry budgie. Well, I shooed it away, and was not able to pick up the Barry budgie, who understandably was Hiding. But I did the good thing. And I got to appreciate how smart McCoy is. -- yes yes much treats good McCoy

The local juvenile Cooper's Hawk came crashing into the back yard today... and I'm not even exaggerating.
I took one step out my back door when the Coop crashed through the branches of one of my Birch trees only 5 or 6 feet away from my head with a pigeon in his talons.

Spot the... Cooper's Hawk
Difficulty: very easy
I was making a coffee and glanced sideways...
Conveniently I always have my camera in the kitchen near the back door.

Spot the... Cooper's Hawk
And shortly after seeing the Red-tailed Hawk one of the local Coops turned up. I didn't get a chance to use my 600mm lens for a close-up since it went hunting right after I took these photos. The close-up is just heavily cropped.
Difficulty: hard

"Big balls" the resident coopers hawk who thinks he can take on my biggest chicken- casually using the porch rail to hunt the sparrows & juncos hiding in the bushes.
He didn't get anyone today.

A few more photos of one of the local Cooper's Hawks sailing around above my house. Seemingly effortlessly but very fast - it barely flapped its wings.
