#ArtAdventCalandar #CountedThread #Embroidery Day 15. This piece was for a San Francisco School of Needlework and Design stitching contest. I'm not sure I like the bland color or the mix of sharp and flowing lines, but the gems were free to anyone wishing to stitch with them. A learning experience.

The outermost regions of each fan are seafoam coloured pulled thread stitched sections, also with added beads for bright sunshiny sparkle. The outer border is scalloped in appearance and is created with scalloped buttonhole stitch and an overdyed Valdani thread. Photo of a framed needlework model, with glass (so there is shadowing) being held by a hand on the left side of the space. The design is in autumn hues of warm yellows, tans, reds and a deep autumnal green. The outer cross stitched border is in a Greek border style with a variegated yellow to red fibre. There are several motifs in the design associated with autumn in Vermont, including a fall maple leaf in the upper right, a stylized autumn forest in the middle left and a butterfly in the centre bottom third. Other motifs include a string of lanterns done in beads adjacent to the top maple leaf, a fence made of gold and green bugle beads at the 1/3 point, and grassy bushes below the forest at the 2/3 point. This was an exclusive design taught by Karen E. Dudzinski at the Stitchin' in Vermont event in 2024.

At the intersections of two angles, the spaces are filled with needlework using the 2 colours. The fill spaces in the outer sections are in darker hues of the dominant angles, i.e. around the top and left, the filled stitches are all a deeper blue, while on the right and bottom the spaces are filled with deep magenta / purple patterns. At the upper right and lower left, the outermost squares each hold an 8 pointed star motif filled, using both dark and light colours from both colour groups. Photo of a canvas Alphabet sampler taken outside in the sun so you see shadows of concrete and natural light around the Sampler. The needlepoint design itself is made up of 3 x 11 boxes, each with one or two letters tent stitched in the box. Around the letters in a monochrome fashion are samples of stitches, filling the box, that begin with the same letter. I've used 5 main colours for the box contents starting with blue for A, then orange, yellow, teal and purple for the next four letters, and then repeated for the rest of the design. This design was the basis for the subsequent pieces, the #ForwardAphabetSampler (which I did on smaller count and removed the letters so I could add more stitch variety) Chart or kit available through your #LocalNeedleworkShop or www.texturedtreasures.ca

As I spent the early hours writing the story of how the "Forward Alphabet Sampler" came to be, here's my original #Needlepoint Aphabet Sampler. In each square the stitches start w the letter(s) for that square.

The design is a Hexagon within which is first a border back-stitched to create two side Celtic Trinity knots and a top and bottom border that both incorporate a Celtic Trinity knot a the centre. The inner part of the design is a woven series of Celtic knots, about a central Celtic Trinity knot. All of these are stitched with perled silk mori in pale pink, pale ble and the central knot is is pure white, with borders of deep burgundy.

A bit of a change, just felt the need to go Celtic for a bit. This is a design I did called #KnottedTrinity.
