Relational Anthropology – When You Correct the Course, the System Pushes Back Choosing connection over control in cycle-breaking reveals underlying coercive patterns in relationships. This choice often triggers violent pushback from those conditioned to prioritize compliance over authenticity. The resistance encountered is a reflection of their conditioning, not the act of course correction itself, which aims for relational restoration and coherence, despite the initial conflict it may cause.

Healing while curating dreams and breaking generational trauma. Resilient Voices and Beyond Podcast, Season Three, Episode 54. Healing while curating dreams and breaking generational trauma. Guest, Julissa Grozozski Torres, YPA, NYCPS, CRPA, Founder and CEO of Triumph OVA Struggles Advocacy and Consulting LLC. This episode holds space for healing centered conversations and storytelling inside my Foster Healing Fellowship capstone work, and it honors the truth that survival skills keep people alive, and healing skills set people free. Julissa walks listeners through a life shaped by early loss, foster care, adoption, religious control, abuse, psychiatric institutionalization, chronic illness, and the long fight to reclaim identity with intention. She names what it costs to grow up inside systems that label behaviors but ignore pain, and she names what it takes to rebuild a self when other people spent years defining it for you. Julissa breaks down the moment she chose her own name at twelve, and she frames that decision as an act of self definition when life offered her few choices. She speaks with precision about how religious restriction narrowed her sense of self, and how adulthood demanded an intentional return to joy, interests, and personal agency. She also connects lived experience to leadership, and she draws a straight line from survival to service, including how peer work, advocacy, and consulting form a mission rather than a slogan. We confront the systems themselves, foster care, psychiatric institutions, and schools, and we talk plainly about what helped and what harmed. Julissa also speaks on diagnosis, misdiagnosis, neurodivergence, and the exhaustion of living inside an identity built around symptoms, then fighting for clarity that fits reality.  She names cycle breaking motherhood as active work, not a slogan, and she describes the daily labor of building a home where children experience emotional safety, support, structure, and freedom to simply exist as kids. This conversation also tells the truth about boundaries, grief, and letting go. Julissa speaks on the hard decision to release relationships that kept her trapped in old harm patterns, and she names the difference between forgiveness and access.  We close with a grounded charge for anyone who feels buried under labels, trauma, and fatigue, take ownership of your life in small steps, protect your healing, and refuse the lie that your past defines your ceiling.   Connect with Julissa Grozozski Torres. Behind the Process- “Gonna Have to Love Ourselves” The blog post chronicles the evolution of a song from a personal self-love anthem to a global testament of resilience. It explores various musical genres, reflecting ancestral truths and communal healing. Ultimately, it conveys a journey through shared human experiences, transforming individual pain into a collective ritual of survival and recognition.

A song born in a kitchen‑party moment of self‑love became a global ritual of survival — shifting from folk comfort to ancestral memory, from personal repair to multilingual spellwork spoken in a shared breath.

Fiction Review: Isabelle Zhu Reads Ann Cavlovic’s Novel Count on Me On the topic of workplace harassment, one of my former colleagues once made the remark, “You should be able to advocate for yourself, since you’re mature.” For him, the capacity to believe that one…

"Cavlovic’s debut novel provides a thoughtful perspective on the possibilities for overburdened mothers to shape a better world, placing attention on the urgent question of 'how to raise children so that fascism could never again take hold.'"

Survivor Literacy Requires Cycle Breaking Survivor Literacy Requires Cycle Breaking Erasing the silence is more than speaking up. It’s breaking the cycles that tried to break us. It’s refusing to inherit the scripts of harm. It’s refusing to pass them on. It’s choosing a different future, even when the past keeps tugging at our heels. Silence is how trauma travels through generations. It’s how patterns repeat. It’s how harm becomes normalized. Speaking up, naming what happened, telling the truth, refusing to carry the shame. are how we interrupt the transmission. We give voice to the unheard.

Daily Prompt – Impossible Goals – Crawling Out from Homelessness – 10.8.2025 Impossible Goals - Crawling Out from Homelessness - 10.8.2025 Today's prompt couldn't be more timely. What was the hardest personal goal you've set for yourself? Setting goals is easy, Reaching them is Harder I've set tons of goals that I've failed tremendously to meet. I've also set some doozies that were no big deal. There've been some adventures and battles along the way. I also find that it's quite difficult to isolate a goal, because when you struggle to survive, surviving is tied to a lot of correlated goals. Being a Traditional Surrogate was not only pretty easy, I had a blast with it, and I can't tell you how many people have told me that they'd have never been capable of it.

It always comes back to the same things. #cultoftheego #scripttheory #risk #homelessness #housing #crisis #vulnerable #abuse #cyclebreaking

Cycle-breakers are often the outcasts of the family because they focus their energy on upending toxic patterns instead of passively maintaining the status quo. It can be lonely work. I acknowledge you.

Shoutout to the parents who never once heard an “I’m sorry” growing up, but are breaking that cycle by raising a generation of kids who know they’re worthy of a proper apology. You’re the real heroes.
