I logged back into #pinterest recently after reading about how it's gaining popularity again. Check out how the push and email notification toggles are all hidden behind accordions 🙀 #darkpattern #darkpatterns #DeceptivePatterns #deceptivepattern

#eventbrite refuses to add an event to my calendar without having read access to all of my calendar entries. needless to say, it doesn’t need such a broad permission only to add an event. #ux #uxfail #deceptivepatterns

A basic horizontal barchart type visualiation is shown - as a screenshot from a Just Giving email. The number on the left lower end of the bar is £180 the number on the right, the upper end of the bar is £500. The bar gauge is shown exactly halfway between £180 and £500, implying that £180 is half of £500. £250 is half of £500, so this is really deceptive UX although being used for a good motivational cause.
While I appreciate the motivational data visualisation @justgiving.bsky.social the implied sum in this visualisation is driving me wild!

Finally managed to cancel. And noticed its offer of « three months for price of two » was actually two months. And. It had JUST rebilled me at full price yesterday without warning, or post-facto notification. Of course. #DeceptivePatterns
Requested desktop site in Chrome. Told Chrome is not supported. And I should use Chrome.
Linked in REALLY doesn’t want anyone cancelling their over-priced premium subscriptions. Had I not looked at @monzo.com I would not know it’s about to renew at full price. #DeceptivePatterns much??

Astonished by the rise of deceptive patterns.
Too many unethical products.
Too many unethical designers.

As well as checking for standard scam stuff with mum's bank, checking her Apple subscriptions is important. Found YouTube Premium and a photo app subscriptions that she will have been tricked into taking out by #DeceptivePatterns
A screenshot of a payment plan details page on a website. The page shows a comparison of a flexible plan and an annual plan. The flexible plan allows you to pay monthly for the number of user accounts you have in that month. The annual plan offers a fixed price per license and requires a minimum one-year contract. There is a blue primary button at the bottom of the screenshot that reads "Review Pricing Details" and a line of text that reads "Stay on Current Plan", that subtly behaves like a button.
Google Workspace makes it tricky to upgrade the current plan. They have a big blue button for "Review Pricing Details," but hide the "Stay on Current Plan" option in plain text. The assumption here is that this text, which functions as a button, will be missed by users. #deceptivepatterns #badux
Screenshot of a web browser tab showing the blue LinkedIn favicon, with a small red dot used as a notification icon. Text reads : Feed | LinkedIn
Users refreshing my LinkedIn for the 10th time because of that red dot.
The focus may be to increase pageviews/repeated visits from users logging in to dismiss the notification icon. Assuming that's good for the product, but bad for accessibility.

Marketing communication checkbox “If you do not want to receive marketing communication from us, please tick the box.” (do not is printed in bold) Preceding the checkbox there is a lot of text that is only there to hide the checkbox: “Taylor & Francis Group would also like to use your e-mail address to send you offers and information about related products and services that we think will be of interest to you. You may opt out of receiving these messages at any time by clicking unsubscribe. You can find more information in our Privacy Policy.” (Privacy Policy is linked.)

YouTube module advertising Premium says "Don't let ad interrupt your picnic. Try to months of Premium and enjoy ad-free videos, curated playlists & more." The response CTAs read "No, I want ads" and "2-month trial" respectively. The latter CTA is designed as the primary one.
YouTube with the oddly blunt confirm-shaming.
