Great explainer of #DoubleEmpathy theory for those #mentalhealth professionals (like me) who learnt Theory of Mind in Psychology 101 in the 1990s.

ND-authored books & books on ND YPs’ interests can be super engaging for ND learners (& fams & teachers!). Engaging texts - eg with fab ND rep - can bridge the #doubleempathy gap (eg between NT author & ND learner). Rewarding & helps fluency.

I think it’s a paradigm thing. The edu Twitter bubble mostly ignores the rise of the #neurodiversity movement. From a critical ND perspective, some of the edu Twitter stars miss the point. They don’t appear to know their ND-authored theory, eg #monotropism & #doubleempathy - while ND CYP suffer 🤷♀️

If I stated my case to these people I'd come across as needy and over emotional. All of these people are NTs. They can't imagine their way into my brain and I can only partially imagine my way into theirs. This is where #doubleempathy comes into play, a theory about NT/ND communication errors.

Are we even remotely getting near to mainstream T&L being able to bridge (or appear to bridge) the #doubleempathy gap between (often) neurotypical teacher and #neurodivergent learner?
