This medium size eurypterid, according to its legs’ morphology, may have been a scavenger looking for food on the seafloor. First described in 1912, 54 years passed after before it gained its own current name.

Size : around 25cm of body length
Time period : Late Silurian
Paleoart speculativometer : Few missing details

The animal drawn looks a bit like a scorpion but without claws, short spiny legs at the front, smooth long posterior legs, and a long sword-like telson in place on the sting

a stylised MSPaint drawing of a black Megalograptus, swimming through dark waters above dark yellow sand. bright starry lights are around, a large pink one to the left of the subject. another Megalograptus is hiding in the shadows under the pink light. pink coral/anemone like structures emerge from the sands nearby.

Excited to find my first eurypterid (that I can talk about) for #FossilFriday. Silurian, can’t pin down the formation, but supposed to be Hughmilleria sp. Head on the left, tail on the right but there’s a blob of stuff in the bottom left/center I can’t make out. Any #eurypterid folks know?

Reference artwork of Nephune Teludra, the "Sea-winged Ferrywoman". She is a gal who is a hybrid of a scorpion mother with a crab father, bearing features resembling that of an eurypterid (extinct sea scorpions). She has dark, tan skin, pink, spiny-like hair, bug eyes that are completely light purple, with a smaller, beady pair on her forehead. Her outfit shows that she has a six pack. Instead of humanoid legs, she instead has massive, meaty pincers instead, with the rest of her body being that of a scorpion, scuttling on four legs, with another, wing-like pair behind them, and a massive tail that ends in a fin-pincer hybrid like a Megalograptus. Her exoskeleton is patterned similarly toa Sally lightfoot crab, mostly red with yellow details. Back at her torso, she indeed has normal arms - albeit clawed and exoskeletal.

Her outfit is coloured in a variety of magentas, consisting of a pirate's hat with a crab patterned on it, an open midriff shirt(?) that covers just her flat chest, a vest with torn sleeves, and a rounded white edge, a red and dark purple belt with pockets, and a magenta loincloth with a shrimp patterned on it.

Best friend of Kessho and a pirate-ish gal who just helps ferry folks from shore to shore, it is the scorpion-crab hybrid, Nephune Teludra.

A charm of museums of natural history is the old exhibits that also serve as a display of former best practices. These exhibits get ignored in favor of flashier shows. This little dusty friend is from the Hall of NYS Environment at #AMNH. Eurypterus remipes is our state fossil.

Eurypteroar is a giant sea scorpion kaiju that lives within the waters around the Marshall Islands , protecting its territory and terraforming the land.

Scores of nuclear weapon tests were conducted throughout the Marshall Islands in the aftermath of World War II and throughout the Cold War. The Operation Hardtack I Cactus test had blown an enormous hole in the surface of Runit Island, and the United States constructed an enormous concrete dome over the crater to bury the nuclear material. An underground chamber was shaken by the bomb's blast, which contained a chamber housing an ancient sea scorpion, kept alive for millions of years within the great amniotic fluid. It remained hidden from the U.S. military as they sealed away the nuclear litter, and the kaiju fed on the material within its shadowy basin. As the crater was not sealed, nuclear material began to escape out into the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding environment over the years. Structural integrity continued to fail until the kaiju escaped from it completely in 2020. The United States Navy engaged it in combat but was ultimately forced to retreat from the islands completely.
