Winged Woman
.
.
.
I was born into the wind.
First, a gasp,
then a gust,
then my first full breath of guilt that was not mine.
They dreamt of a child born Celestial,
but birthed this—
a whirlwind winged creature with sinews both
supple and strong.
Try to tether me.
Try to.
Try.
These wings beat harder than Their will to keep me
grounded.
The wind whispers a breeze across my skin.
Child of the air,
take to the sky.
Your only home is in Your bones.
Let Your fear,
Your pain,
Your joy,
unfurl.
They do not understand.
They do not need to.
While I wander through winds of change,
I feel just like an angel.

I wrote this for an ex-mormon friend of mine. May we both continue to soar—despite their need to tether us.
