The very chonky number three didn't want to play nice with the glue. I do think rounded and in-boards would've worked so much better than this flatback where the textblock is also only attached with the endpapers. I will remake those at some point… But not now. Not even this year. Give myself some more good practising. So I carefully put some more glue into the gap with a small brush. And another night in clamps it was. It did help. We still have to address this one with "Sie", but at least it's not coming apart anymore. 🙌🏻 I do have clamp marks in the cork leather now, though…

That of course effected the spines as well… Those little wiggly patterns are supposed to be filled one by one depending on the volume. Alas, it's barely visible. Spending the night beneath Bouldy. Volumes One and Two are helping. 😁 And now, I'm not sure what to work on next. I could try and get my Papa V cosplay going. Anyone got any patterns for a cassock? * * * #bookbinding #fanbinding

Did some progress for my Dragon Rider trilogy. Artikel ansehen Zusammenfassung ansehen Did some progress for my Dragon Rider trilogy. Book Three's case is just drying and being pressed. (Cork leather is a little resistant to being glued…) Book One is finished, I hope. But not without shocking me when I got upstairs today. I was surprised with not only glue stains on the inside, but also big patch of wetness? AAAAAH. Funnily enough, what a night of pressing and drying didn't do, half an hour of breathing freely did. The patch dried: So, here is the state of things. Book Two finished since a few months, Book One drying in my G clamps, Book Three waiting to be cased in. And while I'm not done yet, let's have an early recap of things that didn't go well with this project (that I remember): * I planned my signatures too thick with too thick papers. Those wouldn't have become books, but _circles_. So, I had to reprint. * Measured for cover boards once, using one book. Had to recut for the other two books (which was the first main spanner thrown into this) * After a multiple month break, I forgot that the cases are not built around the text block, but seperately and _then_ the text block is glued in for Book One. So, less red endpapers for that one. That's… it? So far. Still the last book to finish. It sure _feels_ more cursed. But then, the cork leather is not as easy to work with as cloth. Thicker, doesn't stick to glue as easily… So, while I like the look and feel of it, I'm not sure I'll work with it anytime soon… Will I redo those eventually? Mayhaps. Likely. Gimmeh a year or two of more practise. And with me not being afraid of taking a hammer to the spine anymore, they'd be rounded as well.

2025 Bookbinding Year End Review ▪️8 books - a bit less than last year, but not bad with the mid-year move - new printer/paperstocks to learn. ▪️2 - rebinds (1 paperback, 1 3pc bradel). Both gifts - forgot to take pics of the finished 3pc bradel 🥲 - it turned out really well. ▪️6 - fic binds (4 quartos, 4 paperbacks, 1 flexibound, 3 squareback wrapcovers) - 2 blind binds. ▪️ Also got into (& really enjoy) the related side hobbies of paper marbling - ebru + suminagashi. #bookbinding #fanbinding #papermarbling

Endpapers are vintage fox hunting horseback scene, warm toned printed marbled paper, dark blue and gold printed marbled paper, Christmas holly patterned paper. 2. Selection of marbled papers - some on colored paper (contrast!!), some metallics. 3. Front cover shot of 7 of the 8 binds. Titles are hard to make out - but Black Beauty and Holiday Magic are the top two faves. Black Beauty is all black design - folio size black faux leather wrap cover with black HTV- simple horse head design, with some vine patterns to fill up the front panel. Holiday Magic by pluperfectsunrise is a printable canvas quarto size wrap cover - simple holiday theme with holly, cardinals, red check ribbon design elements, on tan jute-like a background, with white text for title and author name. 4. 7 Books standing up on end displaying the head - demonstrating variety - deckled edge versus cut edge, edge painting versus plain versus speckled edge. The ribbons and endbands tend to match the cover colors pretty well, if I do say so myself. 5. Work in progress shot - rebind of Lady Tan’s Circle of Women. The shot is a color selection palette of toner reactive foils, ribbons, endbands, and the printed flats for the three-piece bradel. Ended up using the holo gold foil - worked well with the dilute green and tans of the cover design. 6. Selection of marble papers, continued - some suminagashi (fairly dilute) and smaller warm toned marbled papers.
