Another example- I wrote a 300 page novel PHD thesis with pioneering machine learning for the field--code I built from scratch. Did not get best the best department thesis. White guy with his 150 page dissertation on improving a current method won. #academichatter #feministscience #phdlife
Yeah classic. I developed a novel method. My male coworker used that method and flew through peer review with 1/2 page comment. Me, the paper rejected with 14 pages of reviewer comments nitipicking said method as biased. #academichatter #feministscience #academicpublishing

Substance abuse is a real issue in college but is encouraged by the intense, high pressure environment. The guy who sat behind me in thermo class bragged about getting drunk to do his problem sets. He's probably making 3x what I make #feministscience
When I started grad school my PI said, undergrads get customer service (I was treated like dirt as an undergrad), you get paid and have to actually work. Of course I was getting paid pennies and he didn't want to pay me between my defense and graduation! #feministscience
One physics professor I had 'joked' about locking the grad students in a gym after our midterm (held at 7:30PM) to grade until they were all done. He was going home to sleep. #feministscience
#feministscience Academia gets a bad rep for long working hours--that is delegated to grad students and adjuncts. Admins, professors, staff, ect all have contracts stipulating work hours. I haven't met one of these people that has worked consistently over 8-9 hours a day.
