The SATADOM in my FreeNAS mini XL died. If I need to replace that, I might as well investigate alternate BSD-based NAS software.

FYI if you have a #Synology (or #Qnap or #FreeNAS, whatever) installing #Tailscale on your #NAS is _much_ more safer (and private) than relying on any remote-access solution that your NAS vendor provides (Synology QuickConnect, myQNAPcloud, etc.)

Ich habe ein leichtes Déjà-vu: Es ist #Sonntag #NAS meldet mir eine defekte #HDD. Vor knapp 3 Jahre war das schon mal so. Aber Dank #RAIDz2 erst einmal kein Problem. Ersatz kommt am #Dienstag.

Upgraded my HP Proliant Gen8 NAS with an used Xeon CPU for 28 € ! That CPU is old (2012) but has AES-NI instructions for encryption and it’s pretty cool to have a Xeon at home (also a good upgrade from Celeron G1610T) 😀 #freenas #Xeon
