Every color is muted by a layer of white frost, like a thorough dusting of flour. An array of crumpled fallen leaves in shades of brown and gray twist and turn amid green leaves, moss and burgeoning California poppy plants. It almost looks monochromatic, but the sugary greens and a few pops of tan leaf colors shows it is not.

Small bubbles in a sheet of ice. Beneath the ice you can see a blurred top ring of a terracotta plant pot.
The ice crystals that had formed on the underside of a layer of ice in a plastic pot of rainwater. I took the ice out and turned it over to take a photo of it from the side. The intricate shapes are sticking up diagonally against the blurred green background of my lawn.
