A Stewart black spider wet fly. Size 14 hook, brown UTC 70 denier, starling feather. The trick is to twist the fragile starling feather around the tying thread and then wrap. This reinforces the feather. The scruffier the better.

A gartside sparrow variant killer bug. Partridge tail and hackle, partridge after shaft for head.

A scud soft hackle killer bug on a curved hook.

A killer bug with a sakasa (reverse) soft hackle and a peacock ice dub collar. Also on a curved hook

Oringinal recipe Killer Bug. Size 14 straight hook, body of Oyster spindrift yarn, tied without thread using red brassie size wire

Killer Bug on a size 14 curved scud hook. Body of Oyster Spindrift yarn, tied with tan thread instead of wire.

A Killer Bug Euronymph style jig fly. Size 16 jig hook, 2.8 mm iridescent tungsten slotted bead, tan thread, pink Senyo's laser yarn collar.

Today’s #lunchties: variations on the gilding the lily of the basic Killer Bug theme. First is the OG tied with wire, and it gets more complex as we go. Do they work better? That's questionable other than the jig style. Tomorrow we add hackle!
