the chuck of a Drummond M-Type lathe with a dead center (pointy bit of steel) in it, supporting a reamer which is inserted into the tailstock. Everything is greasy and covered in metal filings, and there are an assortment of spanners on the crossbed
Getting some quality time with the #lathe today. After nearly a century of use and abuse the Morse taper on the tailstock quill is only vaguely Morse taper shaped, so I'm gingerly reaming it out. Didn't have a dead center for the chuck, so first I had to turn one.

A bit of RHS steel with a bolt at one end and an adjustable guage at the other, screwed into the place on a bike where a rear derailleur normally goes.
Close-up of the hanger with the tool screwed in. I screwed it through a bit extra and put a nut on the other side, because the threads on the derailleur hanger felt a bit loose, and I didn't want to be yoinking the crap out of it and tearing out the threads.
This is the guage. A sleeve of larger diameter RHS steel that has a threaded rod going through it that is screwed down unitl it just touches the rim. It has to slide up and down the bar, because the hanger isn't in the center of the wheel. I made it with a screw thread and welded a nut to the sliding bit, but it's a bit annoying because you have to take the whole thing off off to rotate the tool past the rear dropouts etc. A better system would be to have a larger hole and a stopper nut on the threaded rod so that you could dial in the distance, then slide it out as you rotate the tool, and back to the nut to check the distance.

a table top being glued together. Holding it is one big sash clamp, and one sash clamp that doesn't quite fit, and some f-clamps each of which is being extended by some pieces of scrap made into a sort of z shape.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of this. I'm repairing a table and only had one sash clamp that fit. Was about to head to the tool shop to buy more, but then thought up this One Weird Trick that Big Sash Clamp doesn't want you to know. #DIY #IMadeAThing #woodworking
