To whom it may concern,
A directive coming from the state of Kansas to rid all universities of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has come to effect, and I could not be more distraught. I am perplexed as to the advantages a university would have dismantling an established and proven program for student recruitment, safety, and retention. This directive will put Kansas students at higher risk of issues that will lead to lower enrollment.
I am calling on Republican legislatures to repeal this directive, and to establish diversity, equity, and inclusion as a supportive part of university faculty and student resources. By forcing universities to keep some programs, and scrap other programs that don’t align with national conservative established lobbyist groups’ goals, we are letting the government run through our public and private education systems with the same systemic issues that the national government perpetuates. National partisan politics don’t belong on Kansas university campuses. Here in Kansas, we value what our local universities have to say about their own programs. By having the government overreach in this way, it has a slippery slope to other programs they want to bring and get rid of as dictated by what people outside of Kansas want us to do.
Let the universities decide what is best for the students. The universities are responsible for educating Kansans and preparing Kansans for the workforce, not implementing one-sided politics into the education sphere. Universities in Kansas are the most diverse places in Kansas. It is where you will find students from across the globe working as hard as they can to get into to study what program they want to go into to get a job and work as hard as they can. By implementing this directive we are undermining the ability of our universities to offer programs that are essential for functioning in today’s work force environment. By getting rid of offices and departments that offer help and resources for Kansans, …
