A postcard I got as a gift from a Kraftwerk fan in the UK. It's one of the promotional photos for the song "The Robots / Die Roboter" from 1978.
The song (and Kraftwerk's stage appearance with grey/black pants, red shirts and ties) were inspired by Karel Čapek's play "R.U.R." (Rossum's Universal Robots) from 1920 which introduced the term "robot" to the world. The play is about a factory that produces these robots as mindless servant workers devoid of emotions. Inspiration also came from movies like Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" from 1927 and the art of Russian avantgarde artist El Lissitzky.
Kraftwerk are a synthesizer band from Germany. They worked themes of retrofuturism into their music and stage shows.
