A kinetic vintage 1970s handmade sterling silver geometric modernist pendant on chain necklace made by the Hans Berg silversmithy for Kaunis Koru in Helsinki, Finland. A big bold and superbly hand wrought original modernist design from Finland! The little spheres dangle freely inside the flat circles, and move with the movement of the wearer! Kaunis Koru was a design firm that included most of the greats of Finnish modernist jewelry design including Pekka Piekainen, Mirjam Salminen, and many others. Kaunis Koru did not make the jewelry themselves. They contracted with local silversmithies to produce the jewelry designed by their stable of top designers. In this case, the silversmithy was the Hans Berg workshop also in Helsinki. Unfortunately, Kaunis Koru jewelry didn't include designer marks, so who the designer is for a particular piece is usually based on advertisements or company literature or other published materials on the subject, but in many cases a particular design is attributed based on design similarities with other pieces known to be by a particular designer. In this case, I really can't say for sure. This pendant measures 2.75" tall by 2-5/8" wide, and hangs on the 27" original Finnish sterling silver chain. Total weight for the necklace is 25.4 grams. Both pieces are marked, including the Kaunis Koru mark, date letter for 1972, "925H" for sterling silver, Helsinki city mark, Finnish national sterling silver mark, and the Hans Berg silversmithy mark. Excellent vintage condition.
