Here's a chance to get involved in some important #citizenscience.

If you spot any tagged Bogong moths over the next few weeks or months, report them to the Bogong Watch website (www.bogong.org) or record them on iNaturalist.

It might not be the most eye catching but we think the name Clouded Drab rather under sells its qualities. #mothsmatter

Happy #MothMonday! Looking like a butterfly at rest, the Early Thorn (Selenia dentaria) flies after dusk and is common and well distributed throughout the British Isles. 🦋

Look out for it this month!

Two differently coloured Oak Beauties from the other night. One of the smartest spring moths! Seems to be getting commoner around here. Took 8 years to catch my first, and only seven records in the last 14 years, but have already had four this year. #teammoth #MothsMatter #YorkshireMoths

Mottled Grey from last night’s trap: only the 2nd in our Cardiff garden, the previous in March 2021.

Colostygia multistrigaria: multiple stripes with black ‘Styx-like’ rivulets among the wing marks. Pertaining to the mythological river.

Early entomologists certainly had imagination.
