In terms of upcoming elections, we have two years in a row to make progress.

2026:

Put up a good fight for the #MSSen election. Dems need to punch above their weight and send a message.

2027:

Use the hopefully-continued backlash to Trump to flip the #MSGov and other state executive races.

THREAD: Pay attention to the #Mississippi SUPREME COURT runoff race! Court positions are supposed to be non-partisan but the Mississippi Republican Party and their PACs are blatantly spending tons of money pushing MAGAt Jenifer Branning, who has ZERO judicial experience!

Got this push card in the mail today, paid for by the National Association of REALTORS.

Why do they want someone with no judicial experience, Jenifer Branning, to win this #Mississippi Supreme Court race runoff?

I went state-by-state, starting with #KYgov and #MSgov. Unsurprisingly, they have almost no correlation with presidential election results. abcnews.go.com/538/2023-ele...

ABC News projects that Tate Reeves (R) has won reelection as #MSgov. He is currently leading Brandon Presley (D) 52–46%. Same as it ever was in Mississippi.

Checking back in on results after recording tonight's podcast. With 81% reporting in #MSgov, Reeves (R) leads Presley (D) 53–45%.

AP still hasn't called #MSGOV, but Reeves up 53-45 with 81% of estimated vote in.

Wasserman:

I've seen enough: Tate Reeves (R) wins reelection in #MSGOV, defeating Brandon Presley (D).

Wasserman:

Truly puzzled by the incongruity of some of the numbers I'm seeing in Mississippi counties. Looking good for Reeves (R) overall, but there have to be tallying errors in a few places. #MSGOV

AP estimates 86% reporting in DeSoto County, a suburban Memphis area that's long been source of GOP strength, and #MSGOV Reeves up 58-40. He won it 61-38 in 2019.

Wasserman:

Not sure if this is an error, but a great result for Presley (D) in Coahoma Co. (Clarksdale) if it's true: reportedly wins it 76%-23%. Hood (D) won it 71%-28% in '19. #MSGOV

☹️Wasserman:

Best result for Reeves (R) yet: he wins Calhoun Co. 64%-35%. Carried it 59%-40% in '19 (it was next door to Hood's hometown). Looking better for the incumbent as the night goes on. #MSGOV

AP estimates 27% in for #MSGOV, Tate Reeves up 56-42. Nothing from Hinds County, the biggest source of Dem strength and where a court order kept polls open an extra hour due to ballot shortages.

3/ Wasserman:

Patterns so far suggest Reeves is favorite to finish ahead, but w/ a withdrawn candidate taking 1.5%, could Presley (D) hold him under 50% and force a runoff on 11/28? #MSGOV

2/ Wasserman: Benton Co: Reeves (R) won it 59%-40% in '19, wins it 57%-41% tonight. Presley (D) would've hoped for a bit more erosion. #MSGOV

Wasserman:

Based on what I'm seeing, #MSGOV looks closer than it was in '19, but still a tough task ahead for Presley (D).

2 1 1 1

Wasserman:

First super-red county complete in #MSGOV: George Co. Reeves (R) wins it 83%-16%, up from 82%-17% in '19. BUT turnout there appears down ~15% from '19. Mixed bag.

DeSoto County (Memphis suburbs) looks like it's mostly reporting, though. Reeves is winning it by 18. In 2019, he won it by 23. Statewide, Reeves won by 5 points in 2019, so that could suggest a close race. #MSgov

It's been slow going in #MSgov, but we now have 11% reporting, and Tate Reeves (R) leads Brandon Presley (D) 56–42%. No votes from Jackson yet, though.

6 0 1 1

Wasserman:

First county fully reported in #MSGOV: Humphreys, in the Delta. Presley (D) wins it 75%-24%, Hood (D) won it 74%-26% in '19. Slight improvement for Dems, but Black turnout there flat vs. '19.
