Eastern Rosella, Melbourne, Australia
The Eastern Rosellas have been enjoying our olives this year, so I left them a bunch of fruit on the tree to encourage them to hang around and return next year. This one popped in to say thanks. You’re welcome my friend, you’re welcome!

A light brown slug about 6" long with a ridge down its back. Background, bright green moss.
Brown slug curled in a C shape on moss and leaf litter.
Today in the yard, Banana Slugs! I'm very gratified to see these beauties among the moss and leaf litter. #pnw #nativefauna
A male woodpecker with a red feathered head, or sapsucker, is on the colorful surface of a tree, contemplating his next drill.
#Artoftheday I was purchasing seeds at a #wildbird store and the lady behind the counter said everyone has their favorite #local #bird #nativefauna She was surprised I was a #woodpecker #sapsucker lover because most people detest them. Try a nest of babies #art #artshare #watercolor @bsky.art
I love Budgies! We had a green one growing up called “Buntie the budgie” my cousin breeds them, my grandfather bred them. (Both sides of family). Would love to see a huge flock like this in the wild. #budgie #birds #australia #nativefauna
Happy World Wildlife Day!
The AW region is home to some remarkable species, each making a contribution to the ecological system. While some are widely recognised, others remain elusive and are rarely seen.

Close-up shot of a presumably female Luna moth hanging onto the petiole of a Virginia creeper leaf. She is very plump and in good shape, indicating she likely had freshly emerged within the previous 24 hours. She was located at the base of a shagbark hickory tree on August 4th, 2023
2023 may have been the year I felt like death after getting Lyme disease (see previous post), but it's also the year I was lucky enough to find this beautiful Luna hanging onto a Virginia creeper leaf stem. She (I think?) was returned to the base of the trees where I found her. #NativeFauna
